IDEAcademy learners recently headed along to the Perth Film Studios Open Day and got to experience the buzz of a major community arts event firsthand.

They watched film screenings, explored festival activities, and got a real look into the creative process behind filmmaking. It sparked some great conversations along the way, about storytelling, creativity, and the career opportunities that exist within the film and media industries.

Learners also soaked up the festival atmosphere, taking in the diverse voices and perspectives showcased through the films on offer. It was an experience that was both educational and inspiring, helping our learners build a greater appreciation for the arts, alongside real confidence, curiosity, and community engagement.

Noah's one of our learners using his flex day to make a difference in our community. Once a week he's out in the Perth wetlands, tracking southwestern snake necked turtles for (SOSNT), one of the biggest citizen science projects to run in south west Australia. It's all about protecting local turtle numbers before things get worse for the species.

Flex days give our learners room to do something meaningful, that matters to them and benefits our whole community.

Our learners got creative at our What's Your Jam session this week, picking up acrylics and paint pens to turn plain vinyls into one of a kind pieces. The session was inspired by a visit to the Stormie Mills exhibition at The Art Gallery of Western Australia - AGWA, with learners taking cues from street art to bring their own bold designs to life. Real creative practice alongside exposure to WA's own art scene.

Hello! My name is Myka Smith-Hartley. I'm fundraising as someone that spent so many years thinking I would always feel sick, never 'well enough' to actually live. My fundraiser is for HER.

For Endo Australia I will be climbing Bluff Knoll in August. I picked Bluff Knoll as it is a 6.7km hike, and the average diagnoses for women with Endo is 6.5 years. I thought it would be fitting to challenge myself to a hike, a hike a couple years ago I didn't think I would be able to do. So many young girls are still feeling hopeless, feeling as though it is normal to be sick.

My goal is to raise over $500 for Endo Australia and create a community that allows women to talk about their issues with a community that actually listens.
