Educating, engaging and empowering young mental health leaders!

The zero2hero team envisions a world where mental illness is dealt with openly and treated as a normal part of everyday life. zero2hero is a WA-based not-for-profit organisation with a mission to address mental health problems openly among younger people. zero2hero believe that through communication, mental health problems can be effectively dealt with and su***de can be prevented. Through specialised events the zero2hero team help create supportive networks that encourage speaking out about mental health. zero2hero’s events such as ‘zero2hero day’ and ‘Camp Hero – Youth Leadership Camps’ equip school-aged children and teenagers with the skills to speak up when they are struggling and the confidence to stand up and support their friends when they may be experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, bullying, self-harm or suicidal thoughts. Our programs aim to unleash the heroes of today, to become the leaders of tomorrow in the campaign to promote good mental health throughout their communities.

With footy fever in full swing, we thought we’d turn to someone on our team who knows a thing or two about life on the field 🏉

Before joining zero2hero as our Team Lead, Bradd spent years playing footy at the highest level with the West Coast Eagles.

There were plenty of highs, but also pressure, setbacks, time in and out of the team, and the challenge of learning that who you are is much bigger than how you perform.

So we asked Bradd what his AFL career taught him about resilience, handling stress, backing yourself when things aren’t going your way, and what being “mentally tough” means to him ➡️

There’s something pretty special about seeing mental health education become part of a school’s journey year after year ❤️

We’ve been delivering Chevron Tough Stuff to Year 5 students at Whitford Catholic Primary School for the last three years, and they’ve already booked in again for 2027!

At Whitfords, Chevron Tough Stuff has become part of the school experience. Younger students hear about it from the older kids, and by the time they reach Year 5, it’s something familiar and positive - and something they’re excited to finally be part of!

As Yvonne, a teacher at the school, shared: “I think it’s valuable that the younger students learn and connect with zero2hero in such a fun and positive way, before they reach their adolescent years. By creating this connection early, when there is no stigma or judgement, it supports a young person to feel more comfortable reaching out and asking for support when they may really need it.”

This is why we believe mental health education shouldn’t be a one-off conversation reserved for older teens. From the early primary years right through to Year 12, our school programs are designed to keep building on those conversations, giving young people the knowledge, skills and confidence to look after their mental health at every stage of their school journey

📚 Our 2027 school program bookings are now open! To find out how we can support your students throughout their school journey, get in touch at [email protected].

Almost 1 in 7 Western Australians have experienced suicidal behaviour in the past 12 months ‼️

That means seriously thinking about su***de, making a su***de plan or attempting su***de.

At the same time, WA is experiencing the highest levels of distress in the country, with social isolation and loneliness identified as a key driver by 31% of Western Australians - also the highest rate in Australia.

These numbers are confronting, but they’re also an important reminder of why small moments of connection matter - as simple as a conversation, a check-in, noticing when someone isn’t quite themselves and knowing where to turn when things feel too heavy could save a life.

And while 34% of Western Australians reached out to a support service in the past 12 months, we want every young person to know that asking for help is always an option.

This Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, consider the role we can all play - in our workplaces, schools and communities - in making sure people feel seen, supported and connected.

If you or someone you know needs support:
Lifeline - 13 11 14
Kids Helpline - 1800 55 1800
Beyond Blue - 1300 22 4636
If life is in immediate danger, call 000.

We’re still absolutely BUZZING from not one, but TWO In Your Head events last week 💥🤯

We started with our biggest ever IYH in Perth, then headed east for our very first IYH Kalgoorlie 🙌🏽

Across the two days, more than 2,200 students and teachers from 78 schools across WA joined us or tuned in for a huge day of honest conversations, connection, learning and all things mental health 🧠♥️

Safe to say, In Your Head was one for the books!

What a way to celebrate 10 years of In Your Head!

This year was our biggest and best yet, with over 1,200 students and teachers from 60 schools joining us in person, another 387 students from 11 regional schools tuning in online, and over 25 youth organisations filling our Expo Zone 👏

But beyond the numbers, what made the day so special was seeing so many young people come together for honest conversations, connection and learning - and leaving feeling more confident and better equipped to look after their mental health and support the people around them ♥

Thank you Commonwealth Bank, Lotterywest and Horizons West for your support!

We’re so proud to share that seats are full for our very first In Your Head Kalgoorlie! 💥🫶🦸

Now in its 10th year, In Your Head has brought thousands of young Western Australians together in Perth to learn more about adolescent mental health, build practical skills and feel empowered to support themselves and their peers.

Bringing In Your Head to Kalgoorlie for the first time is a huge milestone for zero2hero, and the response from local schools has been incredible 👏

Expanding our impact across regional WA is a huge focus for us. Young people in remote communities deserve the same opportunities to access mental health education, connection and support, and the response to our first In Your Head Kalgoorlie shows just how valuable these opportunities are.

A huge thank you to our major partners Morgans Financial Limited and MLG Oz for helping us bring In Your Head to the Goldfields and making this opportunity possible for local young people.

Kalgoorlie, we’ll see you soon! 👋🏿
