Early literacy comes to life through stories, and play!
Rhyming favourites like The Gruffalo support to build vocabulary, recognise sounds and predict what comes next! Creating familiar characters and scenes, children can make connections between the story and their own ideas, turning a much-loved book into meaningful hands-on learning.

At Meerilinga Kingsley, we have been enjoying the story Don’t Hug Doug and learning an important message — not everyone likes a hug, and that’s okay!

The children have been practising different ways we can say hello while respecting each other’s personal space. Sometimes we might choose a high five, a wave, a fist bump or simply say “Hi!”

It’s all about asking, listening and respecting what makes others and us feel safe and comfortable.
