The Australian Government has proposed changes to Capital Gains and Negative Gearing Taxation in the recent Federal Budget.

The stated aim was to improve housing affordability and assist first-home buyers, but there are doubts that these changes will achieve that goal.

Removing the 10% GST on new residential construction would immediately lower home and apartment building costs, making housing and rentals more affordable while boosting supply.
