Felt West

Please consider as a matter of urgency

14 days to tell the Minister: No more exemptions for Alcoa! Hundreds of hectares of precious forests are being destroyed every year whilst Alcoa is granted exemption after exemption and allowed to run reckless on the Darling Scarp. When is enough, enough?

Super excited to be offering this felted painting retreat in the most stunning venue in the Scottish Highlands this March. This is my first collaboration with Glencruitten House and I can’t wait. I visited a few months back. Watching the sun set over the water to the Isle of Mull was just beautiful and I cannot wait to be back there creating some powerful landscapes in felt and stitch with you. For more information see the courses page on my website. Link in bio.
Please note: This is a LUXURY retreat so think; stunning Scottish Highland country estate, fine dining, wh**ky library and so much more coupled with a great learning experience.

#feltuary2026 day four prompt is Playful Piece. This one was a result of a fabulous "playful" workshop with @bloom.felt when Marjolein Dallinga came over to the UK several years ago. Its a mix of wet felted Merino and Bergschaf fibre approx 28cm x 19cm x 8cm. Nothing was planned, there was no end goal..... felt it, twist it, stitch it and see where it goes! #wetfelting #playful #sculpturalfelt #3dfelting

What a success, and such fantastic results from this four-day event. Everyone at @leikofelt is always incredibly happy and delighted with their results. And they should be proud to 🤩!

Today's prompt for #feltuary2026 organised by the @northeastfeltmakersguild is Favourite Piece Made and mine has to be these two mixed media vessels. Inspired by coral reefs they were made using 23 micron Merino, prefelts, silk fabric, knitting yarn, polymer clay, beads and stitch. Created for Waltham Windmills "Making Waves" Exhibition, it was one of the most enjoyable and satisfying projects I've worked on so far. #wetfelting #sculpturalfibers #mixedmediart #felting

I like these

10 years ago, I was working as a cook on a remote biological station in the White Sea, northern Russia. I was surrounded by 200 marine biologists and students living and working together on a small island. That summer changed everything. It was there that I first learned about nudibranchs – these impossibly colorful sea slugs with shapes and patterns that looked like they came from another planet. I was completely mesmerized. At the time, I had just started experimenting with needle felting. I wasn’t a scientist, a biologist, or even an art student – I was just beginning to explore creativity. But I wanted to impress the brilliant people around me, so I decided to make a couple of nudibranchs out of wool as gifts for the scientists who studied them. That’s how Wool Creature Lab was born. Soon after, I opened an Instagram account and an Etsy shop. I had no plan, no strategy – just a feeling that these little creatures wanted to exist in the world. And then something magical happened. Marine biologists and divers from all over the world started finding my work. They began requesting new species. Some of them were the very scientists who had described certain nudibranchs for the first time – and they reached out asking for woolen versions of “their” species. Those messages felt completely surreal. Over the past decade, the collection has grown to over 40 species. There are about 3,000 described nudibranchs in the world. I have an ambitious dream: to felt every single one of them. Each sculpture takes 7–10 hours to make… so this might take a while. I’m also working on DIY kits so that anyone, anywhere, can create their own woolen nudibranch and discover these extraordinary creatures. Three years ago, I left Russia. Since then, I’ve lived in three different countries, searching for a place to call home. Through all of that, Wool Creature Lab has been my anchor – my way of staying connected to something meaningful. If you’re new here – welcome to the lab. I’m so glad you found your way here. What brought you to this corner of the internet? I’d love to know. #nudibranch #nudibranchs #dotogreenamyeri #needlefelt #needlefelted
