NO DISTRACTIONS.

Because my girls are on school holidays, I’ve been painting at night. Really painting… until 2 or 3 a.m.

Unexpectedly, I’ve been handling motherhood just fine during the day. Sleep can wait, apparently.

Painting at night unlocks something different. No distractions. No harsh daylight. No school pick-ups. No pressure that tomorrow is already knocking at the door.

There is a freedom in those quiet hours that I can’t seem to find anywhere else.

Looking back, my best work has (almost ) always happened while everyone else was asleep or away. I can’t tell if it’s some primitive form of self-protection, or if darkness simply pushes me into a state of hyperfocus.

One of my favourite moments is walking back into the studio the next morning and almost meeting the painting for the first time. It’s like someone else painted it a few hours earlier.

Cannot explained what I felt when I walked into the room and saw my tentacles installed. Every F word or related F expressions I know came through my mind.
So good to be surrounded by legends!!

Grateful to be supported and surrounded by wicked people with their proper killer skills. Thank you Troy Landers Sail and Anchor and Steve for putting so much effort into this project.

BIRD is the word
A real big deal for me to paint birds but not any bird. The elegance of the Como hotel has inspired me to stylised Herons, a swan and a peacock like I never thought I would be doing.
Colour tones and flow needed for the place was a real novelty in my practice. I feel like I have ticked a box.

Conclusion: Dare more and more!
