This week our staff will be in Geraldton for the two days of the Yamatji on Country event.

Come and have a yarn with us at our stall about any complaints you may have with a local council, state government agency, Charitable Trust, or energy and water provider.

We will also be meeting with local community organisations in Geraldton during the week to discuss the range of work the Ombudsman does and how we can assist.

This community engagement is part of the Ombudsmanโ€™s ongoing regional outreach. Itโ€™s important our staff hear directly from people in regional and remote communities, and raise awareness about our services for all Western Australians.

Did you know that the Ombudsman monitors how the Protected Entertainment Precincts scheme is administered by the Office of the Director of Liquor Licensing and the WA Police Force?

The Protected Entertainment Precincts scheme is a public safety measure that excludes people who have behaved in unlawful ways from complete areas with a concentration of licensed premises, or PEP areas.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Read the report on our website to see what we found and what needs to change. https://ombudsman.wa.gov.au/publications-resources/implementation-protected-entertainment-precincts-scheme-december-2022

The Regional Access and Awareness Program in the West Kimberley this week visit is off to a fantastic start, with strong engagement from agencies, stakeholders and community organisations across the region.

After just one day, the team connected with 33 stakeholders including:

Child Protection and Family Support (CPFS)
The CEO and staff from the Shire of Broome
Community Legal Services Inc. (KCLS)
Aboriginal Family Legal Services (AFLS)
The local Family and Domestic Violence Hub
and had radio interviews with Radio Goolarri and Ngaarda Media.

This creates valuable opportunities to strengthen relationships, promote our services and hear directly about local issues and community needs.

The outreach continues this week, with the team in Bidyadanga yesterday and Djarindjin today for financial wellness outreach events hosted by the First Nations Foundation, and connecting with agencies in Derby tomorrow Thursday and Broome on Friday.
