‼️It’s Grass Seed season in the Southern Hemisphere, and that means emergency vet visits for many dogs.
Grass Seeds are the dried out seed heads you’ll find on long grass that have small barbs along their edges.
They can attach to dog’s fur and burrow under the skin or body openings potentially causing infection, organ damage & even death.
Keep your dogs safe by avoiding long grass & carefully checking fur, between paw pads, ears, eyes & mouth after each walk.
Stay safe! 🖤

The petition is now live.
You do not have to use a prong collar.
You do not have to own one.
You do not even have to agree with their use.
This petition is about something much bigger.
The NSW Government is introducing serious criminal penalties without genuine consultation with the professional trainers, disabled handlers and dog owners who will be directly affected.
At the same time, government dog handlers are protected when using these tools during official duties.
We are asking the NSW Government to pause the prohibition and properly consider regulated access for qualified professionals and people with disability.
Laws carrying serious penalties must be based on evidence, proportionate, consistent and developed through genuine consultation.
Please sign the petition, then share it.
Every signature matters. Every share puts this issue in front of more people.

Working on a new mark > reward-delivery approach. It’s going great! 🙃🫠
One of the biggest issues in dog training discussions is the failure to consider NUANCE.
Opinions are black & white and the hundreds of variables each owner, dog & environment bring to the table are rarely considered.
When it comes to training tools, it’s true many misuse them. That’s an issue that needs to be addressed, but it’s also true tools like prong & e-collars give many dogs & owners a better long-term quality of life than they’d have without them.
Zane is one such example.
A prong collar doesn’t need to be used in a harsh way to be an effective tool. A method/tool being aversive does not make it inherently harmful. The term ‘aversive’ doesn’t mean ‘bad’ (by definition).
Many can’t get their head around the fact that a dog wearing a prong collar doesn’t mean they’re ‘in fear of pain’. People walk on footpaths next to busy roads every day without being afraid, the reason they don’t step into the road ‘is’ a form of aversive control. We ‘learn’ to make clear choices to avoid without being stressed out.
People will argue the same training can be achieved without the ‘addition’ of aversive tools & methods and in many cases that’s true. But not all cases.
Also not considered is the peace of mind these tools can provide an owner. We’re not training zoo animals to do blood draws in sterile, controlled environments, we’re dealing with real-life and all the unpredictable variables that get thrown at us. That’s why we wear seatbelts.
As we see more countries push for tool bans based on cherry-picked research and misinformation from orgs & trainers who lack experience and understanding of these tools, dogs like Zane and his owner fall through the cracks. Dogs that don’t get a better quality of life, but get heavily restricted lives if any life at all.
Zane passed away a few years ago, but thanks to his new owners got to spend many years living his best life due to their dedication to him & determination not to listen to the naysayers. ❤️
