An Apology & A Thank You

Firstly, we want to say we're sorry.

To everyone we haven't yet had the chance to call, visit, check in with or properly follow up with this year... please know we haven't forgotten you. We will get there, and we truly appreciate your patience.

When we welcomed 2026, we genuinely thought it might be a slightly gentler year. Instead, it has become one of the busiest and most challenging years Ridgeback Rescue has ever experienced.

Not only have we taken on more dogs than ever before, but many of the cases have been incredibly complex. Dogs have needed extensive rehabilitation, behavioural assessments, specialised training, long-term kennelling, carefully matched foster homes and far more time than a typical rescue would require.

Rather than moving from one successful adoption to the next, we've often found ourselves juggling multiple urgent cases all at once. As one emergency was beginning to settle, another would arrive needing immediate attention. Every decision became about helping the dog with the greatest need in that moment, knowing another family or foster was patiently waiting for us to catch our breath.

There have been some emotionally exhausting days this year. Days where we questioned how we were going to fit everything in or whether we'd find the right solution in time. Yet somehow, together, we've always managed to get there.

And that's because of all of you.

To every foster carer, adopter, volunteer, transporter, trainer, supporter, donor and every single person who has shared a post, offered advice, sent an encouraging message or simply believed in what we do... thank you.

Quite simply, we could not have achieved what we have this year without you.

Along with that gratitude comes another apology. To those still waiting for a phone call, a follow-up message, an adoption check-in or simply a chance to catch up, we're sorry it's taken longer than it should have. It has never been because you weren't important to us. It has simply been the reality of one urgent case arriving before we had finished the last.

Over the coming weeks, we're determined to catch up on those conversations and reconnect with everyone we've unintentionally kept waiting. We ask for just a little more patience while we work our way through everything.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing beside us through what has been an extraordinary first half of the year. Your kindness, encouragement and support have carried us through moments when we genuinely weren't sure how we were going to keep going.

We hope the second half of 2026 brings a little more breathing space—not just for us, but for all of you too.

Short term foster help

Bandit 🐕

This beautiful 3.5yo pure Rhodesian Ridgeback male is urgently looking for a foster for the next 10 days.

Sadly he has had to be separated from his dad and the family are here from Adelaide trying to sort everything out can’t take him until they drive back next Friday 10.7.2026

He is dog friendly, goofy beautiful boy but family have said no cats

Someone home would be great as he has been through a lot.

All food etc paid for, they thought they had somewhere but that person is now last min unable to help them.

Neema 🐕🐾♥️ - 9yo Purebred Registered female Ridgeback

Some dogs leave pawprints on your heart the moment you meet them 🐾

Neema is one of those dogs.💗

At 9 years young, this beautiful Rhodesian Ridgeback is searching for a loving forever home where she can finally settle, feel safe, and enjoy the comfort and companionship she deserves

Neema is the definition of a gentle soul. Her favourite place in the world is right beside her people, curled up on the couch for a cuddle or quietly keeping you company throughout the day. She adores affection and thrives on being included as part of the family

While she is very much a champion snuggler, Neema still has a playful spark. Every now and then she'll burst into joyful zoomies around the yard or happily entertain herself with a toy—although squeaky toys rarely survive for very long in her care 🧸

Children bring out Neema's inner puppy. She loves being involved in family activities, joining in games and sharing in the fun before returning to her favourite sunny spot to soak up the warmth of the day ☀️

Neema is friendly and social with other dogs and enjoys meeting new canine friends. True to her Ridgeback nature, once introductions are over she's quite happy to go about her own business with a touch of that charming Ridgeback independence 🐕

She is highly food motivated, making training both enjoyable and rewarding. While she can be a little cautious in unfamiliar situations at first, she quickly gains confidence when she knows her person is nearby. She can also be wary of some men initially, but with patience, kindness and understanding she soon learns to trust 💖

On walks, Neema can be enthusiastic and may pull on lead, but off lead she is an absolute delight. Her recall is excellent and she naturally likes to stay close to her trusted humans.

Neema is also wonderfully relaxed during veterinary visits and is a pleasure to handle.

Like many dogs who have experienced change and uncertainty, Neema finds storms and fireworks unsettling and appreciates having her people nearby for reassurance when the world feels a little scary.

Sadly, Neema has endured a difficult and unsettling couple of years through no fault of her own. Despite this, she remains loving, affectionate and eager to share her heart with someone willing to give her the second chance she so deserves.

What Neema longs for most is not adventure or excitement. She simply wants a family to love, a soft place to rest, and the security of knowing she belongs 🏡

Neema has not been tested with cats or livestock.

If you have room in your heart and home for a sweet, loyal companion who will reward your kindness with endless devotion, Neema may just be the missing piece you've been searching for.

Some dogs begin life surrounded by love, guidance and adventure.

Sadly, Spuddle wasn't one of them.

In early December, Spuddle was brought home by a man living with his elderly 80-year-old mother. Due to her son's mental illness, she has very little information about where Spuddle came from or what his life was like before arriving there.

What she does know is that for the next six months, this young boy spent most of his life confined to a bedroom and a small apartment balcony.

A kind friend of the family watched this situation unfold and spent months trying to help. About a week ago, she was finally able to bring Spuddle to her own home, determined to give him a chance at a better future.

For the first time in his young life, Spuddle has access to a large backyard and space to move. But the reality is that he is still desperately missing what he has never truly had—guidance, socialisation, stimulation, companionship and love.

He has never met other dogs. He has had little exposure to the outside world. He has received virtually no training and very little attention.

Despite all of this, the lady caring for him describes him as a sweetheart.

Spuddle is currently living outside while she searches for help. She has tried bringing him inside, but as an elderly lady herself, she simply cannot manage an energetic adolescent dog who is starved for human interaction.

When she goes out to feed him, he becomes so excited that he jumps up and nips at her clothing and hands in an attempt to keep her with him. She is adamant he is not trying to hurt her—he is simply craving attention, connection and affection.

Her grandchild often spends time sitting beside his enclosure, patting him through the bars, and Spuddle soaks up every second of that interaction.

The more we spoke, the clearer it became that this beautiful young boy isn't naughty, aggressive or difficult.

He's lonely.

He's a puppy who has spent most of his life isolated from the world and is now desperately trying to figure out how to be part of it.

His story truly breaks our hearts. 💔

While his current carer is also reaching out to other rescue organisations, we promised we would share his story in the hope that the right person might see him and recognise the wonderful dog waiting beneath all that confusion and unmet need.

Spuddle needs someone patient, understanding and committed to helping him learn about the world. Someone willing to give him the structure, guidance, socialisation and love he has missed out on during these important early months of life.

We just love our happy endings in Rescue 💞 But we got a very special update recently that really bought home how special it is to be rescued 🙌

Do you remember Tiny? 💙 In Dec 24, Tiny was found injured and abandoned in a park. The team at Huntingdale Vets patched him up and the wonderful Perri fostered him during his long recovery.

Not knowing his past was a big issue because he was so shut down to lots of things. We went on the hunt for a home that would change his life! And we found the most amazing family 💗

Last month they celebrated his Adoption Anniversary 🎉 The past 12 months have been amazing for Tiny and his hoomans and all their lives are so much better for finding each other 👏👏 These pics show sheer happiness 😍

That's why we do Rescue! To help these poor babies get a life they deserve. And we just love all the updates that follow!!

Meet Chester 🥰

Chester is a 12 week old Male RR x. He only had a few weeks with his family before they realised that they would be unable to cope with big dog energy!

We quickly picked Chester up and he is being cared for by a loving RR family in an emergency care arrangement. However they are going away and HE NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Chester is busy! And, right now, feeling a little unsettled and clingy. He is very happy, loves dogs and people and plays endlessly. He is partially house trained but is still a little fellow and this will need continued work.

Upon picking Chester up, we have noted that he has a minor problem that is being vet assessed on Tuesday. If this needs correcting, he will need TLC during a short term recovery and not allowed to play with another dog.
