Joseph “Peanut” Ritchie is a long-time Nedlands Rugby player who has represented the club more than 150 times.

In June 2025, Peanut suffered a devastating spinal injury when a scrum collapsed during a match against Joondalup Brothers, beginning a long and challenging road to recovery.

After months of rehabilitation, Peanut reached an incredible milestone in early 2026 when he was able to walk out of hospital.

His determination and resilience throughout his recovery have inspired people across the Western Australian rugby community. In 2026, RugbyWA recognised Peanut with the Fortescue NEGU Award, acknowledging the strength, courage and generosity he demonstrated throughout his journey.

From representing Nedlands on the rugby field to facing one of the biggest challenges imaginable, Peanut’s story has become about much more than sport — it’s about resilience, community and refusing to give up.
