Are Local Governments Now Trying To Find Excuses Not To Plant Critical Cornerstone Species?

Species like marri (Corymbia calophylla) are on the host list, but they are not among the key reproductive drivers of spread.

So the suggestion that we should stop planting marri or other Swan Coastal Plain natives is not supported by the science.

Marri is a keystone species:
• Critical food source for Carnaby’s and Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoos
• Supports a wide range of native biodiversity
• Already under pressure from clearing, fragmentation and climate stress

If anything, this situation highlights the need for greater canopy diversity and continued investment in resilient native ecosystems, not a retreat from them.

Pulling back from planting native species because of PSHB would be a short-term reaction with long-term ecological consequences.

We need to be very careful not to let a complex biosecurity issue be used to justify decisions that further erode our already diminished Swan Coastal Plain canopy.

A local government in Perth’s north is no longer planting a certain native plant species as the number of trees lost to an invasive pest continues to grow.

URGENT: Protect black cockatoo habitat - send an email the EPBC today!

We have less than a week to send a quick email to the EPBC asking them to REJECT the proposal to clear 13.55 ha of Endangered Banksia, and Critically Endangered Tuart Woodlands in Hamersley... important habitat for Endangered black cockatoos and other wildlife who rely on this corridor for food and protection.

The proposal is being assessed at TWO levels - State (WA EPA) & Commonwealth (EPBC Act). If either approval is refused, the project cannot go ahead.

If you sent in a submission to the EPA in December, thank you! This email will take even less time and double the impact. After the recent horrendous decision from the EPA on Fracking the Kimberley, we need to hedge our bets.

Don't gamble on the future of our few remaining patches of Endangered Banksia Woodlands along the Swan Coastal Plain... stack the odds in our favour and send an email to the EPBC today.

The proposal to clear the bushland at Erindale Road is being assessed at TWO levels - State (WA EPA) & Commonwealth (EPBC Act). Both approvals are mandatory. Should either approval be refused, the proposal cannot lawfully proceed.

Submissions to the EPA has closed, but we have until 2 February to double our chances of saving these Endangered Banksia Woodlands, by sending in a submission to the EPBC.
