Dusting is a real issue in the VDJ engines (70 and 200 Series). The seal is of poor quality and allows dust to come in, which causes:
Cylinder bore wear
Piston ring wear
Increased blow-by
Oil consumption
Reduced compression
Turbocharger compressor-side wear
Potentially shortened engine life
Which leads to engine failure. It's a case many have experienced.
How to avoid? An aftermarket airbox - specifically the Donaldson Airbox. Is the way to go! With a proper seal and enhanced filtration, with no dust and better flow for engine performance.
