A joint FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation, Australian Federal Police and Western Australia Police Force investigation has resulted in the arrest of two WA men charged with allegedly hiding malicious code in an unassuming open-source software to harvest more than 500,000 credentials and compromise more than 1,000 organizations worldwide.

The four-month investigation demonstrates the power of international law enforcement cooperation in the face of growing cybercrime attacks.

“This arrest sends a clear message: hiding behind a screen is no shield from the rule of law,” FBI Deputy Law Enforcement Attaché Daud Andish said. "It also highlights the FBI’s commitment to protecting Americans and American businesses—and the strength of our partnership with Australian law enforcement agencies."

Fighting cybercrime is a major priority of President Trump's Administration.

CRITICAL MINERALS 🪏

Big news! Alcoa has officially broken ground on its new gallium production plant in Wagerup, in WA’s Peel region. Consul General Colleen Altstock joined government, business and community leaders to mark the occasion. Backed by US$93 million U.S. Department of War investment, this is the first project delivered under the U.S.-Australia Critical Minerals Framework signed by President Donald J. Trump and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese last year.

Gallium is used in advanced semiconductors and defense technology, and the Wagerup plant will help grow secure supply chains of this critical mineral by producing up to 100 metric tons of gallium each year. Today’s milestone shows our alliance in action right here in WA.

We’re sending a big thank you to the 46 incredible WA firefighters and incident management specialists who’ve just deployed to the United States. With more than 80 wildfires burning across America, their expertise and willingness to step up means so much.

Coming from as far as Kununurra and Albany, this team will spend the next month supporting U.S. crews on the frontline. It’s the third deployment of WA personnel to North America this year. We’re grateful for their dedication, and proud to see Australians and Americans working side-by-side during a challenging wildfire season.
