Keeping water temperature at 34-35 β. Ensuring access to comfortable changing rooms. Aesthetically pleasant surroundings. Maintaining a sanitation and filtration system for clear, healthy, and odourless water.
This jump didn't happen on day one, it happened because of every class before it. The same voice, the same warm water, the same pair of arms always right there to catch them. That's what actually builds a baby who'll launch themselves off the edge with zero hesitation: confidence in the water, and confidence in the person waiting in it. So when you see this moment, know it's not really about the jump. It's about everything that came before it. π€
If you're ready to start building this with your own little one, send us a message, spots for next term are limited and we run a waiting list once we're full. π
This is one of the most common things parents worry about "is it bad that my baby doesn't love water on their face yet?" It's not.
Every baby responds differently the first few times, and none of those responses tell you anything about how confident they'll eventually become. Some take to it instantly. Others need it introduced gradually, a little at a time, until it stops being a surprise. We watch each baby's individual pace rather than comparing them to the kid next to them in class, because that comparison genuinely tells you nothing useful. What matters is the trend over weeks, not the reaction on day one. π€

Every prop in our pool earns its spot, nothing's just there for decoration. The rainbow platform builds confidence at the edge, the kite gets little heads tipped back into the perfect float position without a single instruction needed, and the diving toys turn "go under water" into "go get that." The hoops give kids something specific to aim for, and the kickboard lets little legs do the work without the rest of the body getting in the way. The slide makes going into the water something they're genuinely excited about, and the floating mat is wobbly on purpose, it's balance practice that just happens to look like fun. Play and skill-building aren't separate things here. They're the same thing. π
Spots for next term are already filling up, and with small classes we do run a waiting list once we're full, so if any of this looks like something your little one would love, get in early rather than risk missing the term. Send us a message and we'll sort the right class for you. π

Okay but can we talk about how much fun this thing is?? The floating mat is hands down one of our favourite parts of class, bub gets to wobble, giggle, splash and just be a bit silly while quietly nailing their balance the whole time. Skills in disguise, basically. π€π
Our baby classes are parent-in-the-pool for a reason, it's not just tradition. Babies take their emotional cues from you before anyone else, so your presence in the water does more for their confidence than any instructor ever could alone. It's not just a swim lesson, it's bonding time and you walk away actually knowing how to support bub's swimming at home, not just having watched someone else do it. Two birds. π€

Short answer: not really, but here's the nuance. We actually encourage kids to get comfortable without goggles first, it helps them get used to opening their eyes underwater and builds real confidence, not just comfort with the gear. Once that foundation's there, goggles are a great addition for longer sessions, seeing more clearly underwater, or sensitive eyes. Our pool water is treated to be gentle on eyes and skin. Goggles a bonus, not a requirement. It's a small thing, but it's part of how we think about building skills that actually stick, not just ones that rely on equipment.
It's not a technique or a trick, it's consistency. The same warm pool each week. The same instructor each week. The same familiar little faces each week. Gradual, developmentally appropriate challenges. Babies pick up on patterns fast, and once the water feels predictable, something shifts, they stop bracing and start enjoying it. That's really the whole secret. Watch a baby who's had a few months of the same routine, with gradual skill building, and you'll see it instantly: they relax faster, smile more, and settle into class like it's just another part of their week. π€

"This is what a good class actually feels like"
Not stressed, not overstimulated, not watching the clock, just present with each other. That's genuinely what we're aiming for in every lesson, more than any specific skill or milestone. The swimming comes naturally once bub feels safe and mum feels calm, and honestly, moments like this are the reason we do what we do. π€

A lot of people know us for baby swim, but that's really just where the story starts. At Aquanat we run classes and therapy sessions for every stage: newborns from 10 weeks, toddlers and kids building real skills, private one-on-one lessons for any age or ability, and aquatic therapy support for pregnancy and babies in breech position. Same warm 34-35Β°C pool, same small, hands-on team, every time. If you're not sure where you'd fit, just ask, we'll point you in the right direction. π
Short answer: there isn't a checklist.
No age babies need to hit first, no weight to reach, no milestone to wait for just you, deciding you're ready to get in the water with them. That's genuinely the whole prerequisite. From 10 weeks old, babies can start settling into the water, and the earlier they're introduced, the less "new" it ever feels to them.
What makes it work isn't timing it perfectly, it's the environment, our pool stays at 34-35Β°C, classes are kept small, and nothing is rushed. Even the most sensitive babies ease in without a fight. If you're weighing it up, send us a message and we'll help you figure out what makes sense for your family. π
