Knowing how to safely put someone into recovery position is a critical skill to have when faced with an emergency. It ensures that an unconscious person can keep breathing while protecting their spine.

That’s why we teach it to our Support Workers, so they can protect our customers when in the event of a medical emergency. Here are two of them in training, helping each other get hands-on experience with this life-saving skill.

Stephen is the 2026 Interchange WA Employee of the Year!

The reason why is simple: he takes the time to understand his customers and uses what he learns as a springboard to build them up.

From cooking to shopping and finding employment, Stephen is an advocate who gives his customers the choice and control to direct their lives. Once they choose to take the step forward or make a change, he gives them the tools, structure and support to attain their goals.

Time and again, Stephen has been highly successful in creating positive change in the lives of his customers, and it’s this track record that won him the prestigious award of Employee of the Year.

Layla is the winner of the 2026 Interchange WA Award for Excellence in Service. The amount of kindness, respect, and openness to learning she has displayed is exceptional. The way she picks up information and applies it has made a substantial positive difference on her customers’ lives and made her more than deserving of the award.

When given the opportunity to support a nonverbal customer, Layla took up the challenge to learn their personal system of sign and body language to communicate. Soon enough, Layla was able to seamlessly communicate with the customer, helping them feel supported and understood at all times throughout their supports.

This Pride Month, we celebrate love, identity, and the right for everyone to feel safe, accepted, and supported.

Parents! We wouldn’t be here without them.

Global Day of Parents is here to remind us to appreciate the contributions and sacrifices they make to raise their children and support their families. That includes parents who are carers for their children with disability, as well as parents with disability.

So, whoever you are, take a moment to spare a thought (or a phone call) for your parents or children to keep nurturing the lifelong connection between you.
