Congratulations to Professor Zora Singh on being named a Fellow of the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS), one of the highest honours awarded within the global horticultural science community.
Zora's recognition reflects a distinguished career marked by academic excellence, research innovation and significant contributions to horticultural science. His work has had a lasting influence on the advancement of horticultural research and industry practices both nationally and internationally.
Reflecting on the honour, Zora said the award was both a recognition of past achievements and a motivation to continue contributing to the field.
“This recognition is a great honour and a responsibility to keep contributing to the advancement and global impact of horticultural science. This honour recognises the journey so far and inspires the work still ahead.”
Zora's achievement is a proud milestone for Edith Cowan University (ECU) and highlights the global impact of research conducted within the School of Science.

Did you know that our School offers study tours overseas? This selfie is from last year's Planetary Health Study Tour in Fiji, an experience that offers students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience tackling real-world environmental and public health challenges while earning academic credits.
The next tour is running 9 January - 7 February 2027. If you're a current Edith Cowan University (ECU) School of Science student, check your email for more details (including grants).
Hosted by Fiji National University, the program is designed for students interested in the connection between environmental health, community wellbeing and sustainable development. Participants will engage in seminars, field visits and community-based learning activities that explore planetary health issues facing Fiji.

"My course was very hands-on, with multiple field trips as part of my studies."
Bree Elliott graduated from our Marine and Freshwater Science course.
"I also enjoyed a 'Work Integrated Learning Placement', working with a marine consulting employer. There, I was exposed to many aspects of the marine consulting industry, learning from the experience of professionals and gaining invaluable insights and advice not covered in textbooks."

Have you seen the Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo/Ngoolark courtship behaviour on our Joondalup campus yet? Males are wooing their partners through elaborate displays (like the song & tail spreading in this video), before choosing a deep hollow in a tree to lay their eggs.
The School of Science has installed artificial nesting tubes all over campus, as well as bird waterers called 'cockitroughs' to help ensure the survival of these endangered species.

Andrew Denton has recently completed the Bachelor of Science with a major in Environmental Management and Conservation Biology at ECU South West - Edith Cowan University Bunbury Campus.
He says that "The degree I am studying is interesting as the course is so broad. It can lead to many different future career options."
