Past Mill Point member Jim Walker AM is well known to many of us. His has given significant service to the mining sector, to history preservation organisations, and to the community.
Jim has worked tirelessly to support the WA Training Awards and was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List.
Jim is Grand Master of The Grand Lodge of Western Australia and will enlighten us on the mysteries of Freemasonry.

A great opportunity to hear Ann Curran, CEO of “Vinnies" enlighten us about the homelessness service Passages and the associated Compass program, as well as their adult homelessness services. These services are significantly funded by proceeds from the "CEO Sleepout" each year and we are proud to have had one of our members - Dr Eunice Sari -participate in the annual CEO sleepout this year.

Professor David Blair AO is a physicist at the University of WA. Amongst his many accomplishments are inventing the sapphire clock and setting up the GinGin Gravitational Wave Research Centre. He is very involved in Youth education and has titled his presentation 'Einstein’s Science for Children', (so you shouldn’t need to dust off your school science notes…..).

More Aussies found alive in Nepal!
As of this morning, the number of Aussies missing after last week’s catastrophic flash flood is 38. Details are scarce, but we know that 3 people were found outside the flood zone, another was found in Nepal, and one in Tibet. It comes after 25yo Cara Severino was confirmed safe on the weekend. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has received more than 800 calls from people worried about their loved ones in the region. It says 18 staff have travelled to Nepal, while emergency aid from Oz was due to arrive yesterday. The death toll has now risen to more than 1,060 people, with over 4,400 missing. Foreign Minister Penny Wong says many areas are “still difficult to reach” and that “as each day passes, our grave concerns for those still unaccounted for inevitably grow”. (Source: The Squiz)

Celina Chen is founder of RealChina. In her talk The Silk Road, Celina will take us on a cultural storytelling beyond the Terracotta Warriors. We will travel along the Silk Road and its human stories, gaining an insight into this ancient trade route and the cultural connections it created across continents.

RAWCS | Project Details

Our guest speaker on Friday 21st August is Rob Parker who will tell us about his "America’s Great Loop". A 4 year (in summers) expedition to drive his 40ft powerboat from Florida, up to New York, Great Lakes, Chicago, then down the Mississippi, arriving eventually back in southern Florida, while never going on the ocean once!
The Vessel: They navigate aboard a Selene 48 Trawler named Objee.
Beyond the Loop: After finishing the classic 6,000-mile Great Loop route, they extended their cruising lifestyle northward.
Recent Expeditions: They have logged thousands of offshore and inland miles, including extensive cruising voyages up to Alaska and Glacier country.
Vessel: Objee, a Selene 48 ocean-going trawler.
Milestones: Logged over 5,000 nautical miles exploring remote northern and bluewater destinations.
