‼️ CLOSING DOWN SALE ‼️
After 65 years in Orange Grove, the Gem Shop and Crystal Warehouse is closing down. Come and say farewell!
It started with a mine. In 1959, the Soklich family acquired the Great Australian Amethyst Mine — Australian amethyst that went out to the world and on the map of the international gem trade. Other leases of Australian minerals followed, and those leases remain the backbone of the business to this day.
The Crystal Warehouse came later. Rough rock off the mining leases directly were cut and polished on site — lapidary saws, vibrating laps, long days in the shed at Orange Grove. The late Frank built a reputation for lapidary work of a standard few in this country could match, and his son Martin carries it now. Between them they are known well beyond Australia for it.
The Gem Shop opened with a handful of rough stones on a bench. Interest grew, and so did the shelves: polished and cut stones, carvings, jewellery, specimens. From there came wholesale, then export, and then the world’s biggest gem show in Tucson — where Soklich Trading has shown Australian minerals to the world’s collectors every year since the 1970’s, and still does.
After decades at Orange Grove, the property is sold and we are moving on.
The mining continues. The leases stay in the family and Soklich Trading Company carries on. But the Gem Shop closes, and with it the only place this material has ever been sold across a counter. Much of what is on the floor came out of our own ground and passed through our own hands, and once it leaves the shed it won’t be replaced.
If you have been meaning to come out to Dale Place, this is the last opportunity.

MAX’S HOT PICK: Madagascan Petrified Wood
Wood that turned to stone. Over 200 million years ago these were living trees, buried under sediment. Mineral-rich groundwater slowly replaced the wood with silica, cell by cell, until it was solid stone. Look closely and the original grain and growth rings are still right there.
It’s the stone of transformation — proof that change doesn’t have to mean losing what you were. Something of the original stays while it becomes something entirely new.
Come see it in person. These pieces photograph well, but they’re even better in your hands.

Max’s hot tips!
Curious about how to use a pendulum?
In this short video I’ll show you the simple method I use — there are plenty of approaches out there, but this one is easy, straightforward and a great place to start.
We’ll begin by asking the pendulum to show us a YES and a NO, then put it to work with a few simple yes-or-no questions.
No pendulum yet? We’ve got a wall of them in store — come in and let one choose you. 🔮

What are the questions you would ask yours?
Max here. Come take a walk through the shop with me — I know where the good stuff is.
If it’s been a minute since some of you have been in, and there’s plenty that’s new. Fossils, rose quartz carvings, amethyst caves you can practically climb into, and a fresh run of sterling silver.
Come have a wander. I’ll show you around.

New bracelets just landed 🌈
Amethyst, lapis lazuli, chrysoprase, aquamarine, blue lace agate, carnelian, rhodonite, aventurine, dragonstone, black and yellow jade — plus a few more we’re still unpacking.
Polished rounds, chunky chips, rough natural textures. Every one sits differently on the wrist, so wear a single stone or stack four and let them clash on purpose.

MAX’S PICK OF THE WEEK 🖤
The Guardian — Western Australian Black Tourmaline
Some crystals sparkle. Others just command respect.
Black Tourmaline — schorl, if you want the proper name — is the iron-rich end of the tourmaline family, and it doesn’t do subtle. Formed deep within WA’s ancient pegmatites, these bold striated crystals have been sitting quietly beneath our feet since long before anything walked above them.
Max picked this one for the striations. Run your thumb along the length of a good piece and you can feel every ridge — that’s the crystal’s growth history, written into the surface.
Spiritually, Black Tourmaline is often associated with grounding, protection and emotional balance — a reminder to stay steady when life gets noisy.
A timeless piece of Australia’s ancient story. 🇦🇺
Open every Friday Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm
Came say G’day!
This week’s pick from Mama Sox — Titanium Aura Quartz.
It starts life as ordinary clear Quartz, then gets bonded with vaporised titanium under high heat. A permanent fusion, not a coating, so it won’t rub off or fade. The rainbow metallic sheen is entirely man-made. The crystal underneath is entirely natural.
Metaphysically it’s linked to confidence, creativity and lifting a low mood.
Whether you’re here for the chemistry or just the shine — come see it in person.
