πŸ“’ UPDATE: The ATO credit card payment ban has been delayed.

The Australian Government announced on 9 October 2026 that the ATO will continue accepting credit card payments until 30 June 2027.

The planned change had been due to take effect after 30 November 2026. The extension gives the ATO more time to consult, particularly with small businesses.

How could this affect you or your business?
If you or your business uses a credit card to make ATO payments, the previously announced 30 November cut-off no longer applies. The announcement extends the transition period; it does not state that the planned change has been permanently cancelled.

⚠️ General information only. Your Finance Group (YFG) Pty Ltd does not provide tax advice.

Do you use a credit card for ATO payments, and could a future change make managing your cash flow and other repayments harder?

YFG can help you look at business lending, refinancing, debt consolidation or cash-out lending. What may be available depends on your circumstances and lender requirements.

πŸ“’ ATO credit card payment change: a date Australian taxpayers may need to know.

The Australian Taxation Office has announced that it will stop accepting credit card payments after 30 November 2026.

This change applies specifically to payments made to the ATO. It does not mean credit cards are being banned or will stop working elsewhere. The ATO says other payment methods will remain available.

The ATO also says taxpayers with a direct debit arrangement linked to a credit card need to update their payment method before their next instalment due after 30 November 2026.

Why should you know about this?
Some individuals and businesses currently use credit cards for ATO tax payments, including payment plans. The change may require adjustments for taxpayers who use this method.

πŸ“’ RBA cash rate update
The Reserve Bank of Australia has increased the cash rate target by 25 basis points (0.25 percentage points), from 4.35% to 4.60%, following its 29 September 2026 meeting.

🏑 Why does this matter?
If lenders increase variable home loan rates, repayments for affected borrowers may rise. Lenders may also change assessment rates or lending policies, which may reduce borrowing capacity for some applicants. Changes are not automatic and can vary by lender, product and individual circumstances.

πŸ“Œ RBA meeting reminder:

Australia’s next Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) cash rate decision is scheduled for release at 2.30 pm AEST on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

The RBA Monetary Policy Board is meeting on 29 September 2026. No cash rate decision has been announced. This Monday post is a timing reminder only. We will share a separate update after the official RBA decision.

Australians may follow RBA cash rate decisions because interest rates can affect borrowing, saving and broader economic conditions. Any lender response is separate: lenders decide if, when and how their interest rates, policies or pricing change.
