APRA has finalised changes to how general insurers manage reinsurance, the cover insurers themselves buy to manage large risks.

The changes give insurers more flexibility in how they access that cover, while keeping protections for policyholders in place. They come into effect from 1 January 2027.

For business owners, this won't change anything overnight. However, it's part of the system that shapes what cover is available and how it's priced over time, which is exactly why we keep an eye on it.
