This shoot was about bringing bronze back but it was also about something bigger.

Makeup was never meant to make you perfect.

It’s like putting on your favourite outfit. It should feel like you. Whether that’s bronzed skin, a bold red lip, no lashes, all the lashes, soft glam or full glam, there are no rules.

And maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but as a makeup artist, I want to be proud of my application, not my editing. I don’t want to rely on FaceTune or Photoshop to make my work look good. I want you to recognise you in the mirror. Real skin. Real texture. Real beauty.

My job isn’t to change your face. It’s to help you see what was already there and leave my chair feeling confident, comfortable and like the best version of yourself.

It’s been a few months since one of the biggest days of my life, and it’s taken me a while to share these photos.

Little Narissa, the girl who spent years struggling to love herself, would be so proud.

On this day I was sleep deprived, still breastfeeding Taj, hadn’t even thought about weaning, and was trying to juggle planning a wedding with a one-year-old. It wasn’t perfect, but somehow, with the help of my beautiful family, friends and my now husband, it became one of the most beautiful days of my life.

Looking back now, I still catch myself noticing my arms or wondering if my b***s are sagging. Then I stop and realise…I look exactly how I wanted to.

Like me.

These are some of my favourite photos of myself. I barely looked at my phone, hardly took a selfie, and before I knew it, the day was over. A teething, tired little bub just wanted his mum, and I wouldn’t change that for the world.

I could have waited until I lost the weight. Until I looked more like my “old self.”

I’m so glad I didn’t.

Motherhood deserves to be celebrated too. Not everybody “bounces back,” and that’s okay. Our bodies grow babies, feed babies and carry us through life’s biggest moments.

Don’t put your life on hold waiting for the day you think your body is “right.”

Because one day you’ll look back and realise…
