Whiteman Park is a unique conservation and recreation reserve at the doorstep of the Swan Valley in Perth's north.
Here you'll find vast picnic grounds and historic transport museums surrounded by native banksia bushland. Whiteman Park is a unique conservation and recreation reserve in Perth's northern suburbs, with museums, wildlife and more. Covering nearly 3,700 hectares of natural bushland and leisure facilities, the Park boasts a fantastic range of attractions and facilities and is a great year-round destination for families. The picturesque grounds of the Village and Mussel Pool are perfect for picnics, with expansive lawns, shady trees and well-appointed facilities including playgrounds, sports courts, BBQs and shelters. Transport heritage is a major theme within the Park’s attractions, which includes Revolutions Transport Heritage Centre, the Motor Museum of Western Australia, the Tractor Museum, and vintage train and tram rides. The popular Caversham Wildlife Park and Nocturnal Woylie Walks of Woodland Reserve offer visitors the opportunity to get up close to some of our native wildlife. Whiteman Park also offers a 14km network of walk/cycle paths, three bush trails, a number of speciality shops and the Children’s Forest, where kids can learn about the bush and its inhabitants. Located on the Swan Coastal Plain, the Park boasts a vast array of native flora and fauna within its banksia woodlands and melaleuca damplands. It also serves to protect the Gnangara Water Mound, acting as an important wetland and water catchment resource.

Today marks 40 years since Whiteman Park was formally opened to the public as a giant 'park for the people'.
On the lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people, Whiteman Park took shape as a visionary parkland held for its environmental merits and loved by locals as a recreational space.
Since 1986, much of those old fringing pasturelands have been slowly restored. The goal? To add much-needed buffers to the remnant natural bushland: the iconic banksia woodlands and melaleuca damplands that make up over half of the Park's current size.
Our 40 Years logo features a trio of flora and fauna symbols that reflect the diversity of Whiteman Park's bushland environment: a frog to represent the aquatic environments, a wallaby for our bushland and the iconic fruit of our forest giants, the marri.
It is this that we celebrate as we quietly mark the occasion today.
The foresight in saving this beautiful bushland of ours, and the wildlife that thrives in the haven that is Whiteman Park.

With spring in the air, it’s the perfect time to get outside and explore the Children’s Forest at Whiteman Park with the family!
As you explore, keep an eye out for giant marching ants, colourful birds, peeking possums, a life-size wedge-tailed eagle’s nest and the Forest’s guardians, Boy of the Bush and Fern. 👀

Take a walk on the sweeter side at Whiteman Park. 🍭
Got a sweet tooth? Make a pit stop at The Lolly Stop and fill a bag with all your favourites, from lollipops, jelly snakes and sour treats to chocolate, fudge and licorice all sorts.
There’s also a mix of local goodies and international favourites, including Whistlers, Morish Nuts, Hershey’s, Twinkies and Milk Duds. 👀🍫
It’s the perfect little reward after exploring the Park’s attractions, whether it’s after a vintage tram ride, checking out one of our free playgrounds or exploring the museums.
Just remember to leave a little room in your itinerary... and your lolly bag! 😉🍬

These fluffy proteas really like to celebrate wildflower season, given they look just like little fireworks when in bloom!
In the same family as our well-loved banksia species, the pixie mops usually flowers between August and December. That being said, they’ve yet to make an appearance in our bushland yet, so there is time aplenty to look for these furry bushland delights. Look for them along Whiteman Drive West roadside, and on the Wunanga Trail.

We have one word to describe this stunning capture: graceful.
With a sunbeam lighting up the take-off, you can perfectly see how these waterbirds got their name.
The yellow-billed spoonbill (Platalea flavipes) use the flat spoon-shaped bill to forage in the muddy bottoms of shallow wetlands and lakes, like those at Horse Swamp. They feed on aquatic insects that they scoop up and swallow down that long, graceful neck.

More than 600 volunteers help bring the Park to life, from operating vintage trains and trams and restoring heritage buses, to welcoming visitors and caring for historic collections.

🌿 Take a peaceful spring wander along the Wunanga Trail.
With winter now passed, the Park’s banksia woodlands begin to burst into colour, with tiny orchids, trigger plants and delicate wildflowers starting to appear across the bushland.
Meaning “quiet” or “peaceful” in Noongar, the 4.3km Wunanga Trail winds through jarrah, marri and banksia woodland, offering a beautiful way to experience the diversity of the Swan Coastal Plain.
It’s the perfect time to get out exploring . 🌼

Our ectotherm friends are waking up with the warmer weather! 🦎🐍
You can expect to see bobtails, snakes and other reptiles starting to move about in the bushland, and on the roads and paths around the Park.
We spotted this beautiful bobtail while we were out bush today. Perfectly timed for 🤩
