Dempsey is heading to Kalgoorlie for Diggers and Dealers 2026.
Demps will be there for the Monday, when Kalgoorlie becomes the centre of the Aussie mining world for a few days.

Some spots just stop you in your tracks.
As you know Dave is on the road heading east for a site visit when he pulled over at the Murrumbidgee River near Gundagai.
Not for fuel. Not for coffee.
Because that river crossing is where he cut his teeth as a mud engineer.
One of his first major drill shots. A bore running under the Murrumbidgee. Full cobblestone formation. Unpredictable. Unforgiving. The kind of ground that teaches you fast.
He sat with the drilling contractor, worked through the mud program, and got it done.
Driving past that same stretch of river on the way to another job, 20 odd years later, that is what this work does to you. It ties you to places. To the ground you drilled through so you can look back.

Offsiding can have it's good days and it's bad days. At least your muds are running smooth though.

WE ARE BACK with a little tech talk, where we get info across info as simply as we can, that is always the goal. So in that case....
High torque downhole doesn't always mean the same thing.
That's the part a lot of drillers get caught out on.
Dave, puts it simply: there's no single fix for high torque. There's just a process for finding the right one.
Here's what that looks like in practice.
If your grease has gone dry and waxy downhole, adding liquid polymer can strip that grease back and bring torque down. It works. But only because the cause was lubrication-related.
Now flip it. If torque is climbing because your hole isn't clean, throwing lubricant at the problem won't do a thing. You're solving for the wrong cause.
And if you've got doglegs, bend radius, or steering in the hole? That's a friction and contact issue. Lubrication is the right call there. Hole cleaning isn't the problem.
Same symptom. Three different causes. Three different solutions.
The step most people skip is the diagnosis, BUT actually looking deeper at the issue.
Before you reach for anything, you need to know what's actually driving the torque. Is the hole dirty? Is the string dragging through a bend? Has the grease broken down?
Get that wrong and you're not just wasting product. You're potentially making the situation worse.

Dempsey rocked up to the Precision Drilling yard and did what any self-respecting South African would do.
Fired up the braai.
A few laughs, good food, and some good chats with the lads a few weeks ago now.

The South West on a clear day in WA, goes pretty alright.
A big thanks to the Australian Drilling Industry Association (ADIA) for the shoutout!
We had Dempsey Fouche getting out to site and checking in with the team at Geographe Drilling face to face and checking in on their muds and having a good catch up.
You can answer calls and send emails from a desk, but you can't have a good laugh with the guys, spot a problem early, or build trust through the phone alone.

One product change. That's all it took.
Our fam running operations across the US, were out on an exploration job running X FRAC DD.
Same banner. Same standards. Same commitment to getting the job done right.
The ground wasn't cooperating. Lost returns, unstable formation, and nothing they had on hand was holding it together.

The final day of DRC Mining Week and the floor was busy.
