Man in Chair:
‘Guest conductor Jessica Gethin (Principal Conductor of the West Australian Ballet) makes the strongest possible impression, leading Orchestra Victoria in a richly detailed performance of Prokofiev’s vibrant score. By turns dreamily romantic and blazingly dramatic, the music has a striking sense of momentum, which Gethin delivers in thrilling style. Strings convey plaintive longing while booming brass, particularly trombones, enhances dramatic intensity.’
The Blurb:
‘All the gaiety, fun and high drama in this tale of love and loss are brilliantly captured in the stunning score by Sergei Prokofiev. These are so deftly realised by maestro Jessica Gethin, concertmaster Sulki Yu and the sublime strains of Orchestra Victoria…. The Australian Ballet has outdone itself with one of the finest productions in its rich and storied history. We see Romeo and Juliet at its gorgeous, devastating best.’
The Australian Ballet: Romeo and Juliet review [Melbourne 2026] Making a welcome return to the Melbourne stage after only four years, John Cranko’s Romeo and Juliet consolidates its position as a treasured favourite of dancers and audiences alike.

Since August last year, I’ve had the privilege of working on this incredibly special project with Harry Connick Jnr. It has been 10 months of hard work, love, care and commitment to bring it to life. To see it come to fruition this past weekend at Carnegie Hall with Harry and the wonderful Orchestra Victoria, alongside the media coverage surrounding the project is something I’m immensely proud of.
Grateful to everyone who helped tell the story and support this journey along the way. Thanks to The Australian, STM Magazine, The Sunday Times, The West Australian and ABC Classic for their interviews. Enjoy reading the story behind ‘Elaboratio’!

REVIEW | QSO | Stage Whispers
https://www.stagewhispers.com.au/reviews/spirit-violin
“Hosted by the ebullient Ed Le Brocq, the two-hour programme introduced one of the QSO’s newest additions – Johnny van Gend on violin – and also farewelled cellist extraordinaire Craig Allister Young after a 35-year career with the orchestra. Safe in the hands of award-winning conductor Jessica Gethin (currently Principal Conductor with West Australian Ballet, and Head of Orchestral Studies and Conducting at the WA Academy of Performing Arts), the musical choices were bold and bracing, with a ballet and opera watermark”.
