One of our team members snapped this massive wall of outdoor units while away recently. Imagine drawing the short straw on a Friday afternoon for a "quick fault-finding job" on this setup!

Trying to figure out which unit belongs to which apartment—or finding the right isolator switch—would test anyone's sanity.

Hats off to whoever installed them, but we’re definitely happy to be back servicing properly labelled, accessible systems around Perth!

Last week, our Directors headed over to the ActronAir Head Office and Warehouse in Sydney for an in-depth training session. Supporting Australian manufacturing is a key part of what we do, and seeing firsthand how these systems are engineered helps us deliver the best possible results for our clients across Perth.

They brought back plenty of practical insights and photos to run through with the team during our latest in-house training session.

Does ageing air-conditioning equipment mean you need to replace everything at once? Usually, no.

For schools, offices and larger commercial properties, air-conditioning systems are often installed and replaced at different stages over many years.

Rather than waiting for major equipment to fail, older systems can be assessed based on their condition, age, reliability, repair history and importance to the building.

This allows replacements to be prioritised and staged over time, helping businesses plan expenditure and reducing the chance of an unexpected breakdown forcing an urgent replacement.

Not every old air conditioner needs replacing today. But it pays to know which ones are likely to become tomorrow’s problem.

When it comes to air conditioning, bigger isn’t always better.

One of the most important parts of installing a new air conditioner is getting the system size right.

An undersized unit can struggle to maintain temperature on hot Perth days, but simply installing a bigger unit isn’t necessarily the answer either.

Room size, ceiling height, insulation, windows, orientation and how the space is used all need to be considered.

A good air-conditioning installation starts before the unit goes on the wall — with selecting the right equipment for the home.

Aside from being an impressive collection of outdoor units, it’s a good reminder of how important proper planning is when designing commercial air conditioning.

Cooling the building is only one consideration. Service access, equipment location, energy efficiency, redundancy, noise and future replacement all need to be thought about.

There’s rarely only one solution. Good HVAC design is about finding the system that makes sense for the building now and over the long term.

Where your outdoor air-conditioning unit is installed actually matters.

Proper airflow, service access, heat rejection and secure mounting all need to be considered when choosing a location.

Poor positioning can reduce efficiency, make future servicing harder and potentially shorten the life of the equipment.

It’s also worth keeping the area around your existing outdoor unit clear of plants, storage and anything else that can restrict airflow.

And despite what Molly’s dog might tell you, the top of the condenser isn’t additional storage space.
