Kids in FIFO families don't get a lot of credit for what they navigate.

They learn pretty early that one parents's version of Friday is actually Tuesday. That being home for the school concert isn't always guaranteed. That the house runs a bit differently depending on what week it is and who is in it.

They adjust. They figure it out. They get good at video calls and countdowns and understanding that being away doesn't mean being gone.

A 2:1 keeps everyone in a constant state of transition. You're always adjusting, always readjusting, never quite settled in either place for long enough to feel like yourself.

A 4:1 gives you time to find a rhythm on site, but that length has its own weight. Home starts to feel distant in a way that's hard to explain to someone who hasn't felt it. And when you come back, the person who's been holding everything together has their own version of readjusting to do too.

Both are valid. Both are hard. And both ask a lot from every person involved.
