We designed a custom scleral lens with toric haptics to help stabilise the lens and improve centration and comfort over the irregular cornea seen in the topography maps.

The patient went from 6/9 with glasses to 6/6 without glasses!

FL-41 is a rose-tinted lens filter developed based on clinical research into photophobia and migraine triggers.

Studies show FL-41 selectively filters blue-green light wavelengths, linked to migraine activation and light-induced discomfort.

These tinted lenses are effective for:

1. Migraine-related photophobia
2. Blepharospasm
3. Light sensitivity following concussion or traumatic brain injury
4. Discomfort from fluorescent and LED lighting

Did you know multifocal contact lenses exist?

They pack two or more prescriptions into one lens, usually in circular zones, one for reading and one for distance. Your eyes take in both zones at once and your brain learns to focus on whichever one matches what you’re looking at. It feels a bit odd at first, but most people adjust within a week or two. They’re mainly used for presbyopia, that blurry near vision thing that shows up once people hit their 40s.

A patient with a known history of Crohn’s disease presented with sudden onset redness, mild discomfort, and localised tenderness in one eye. Examination revealed diffuse conjunctival and episcleral injection with a salmon pink hue, consistent with episcleritis, likely an extra intestinal manifestation of Crohn’s flare activity. This was managed with moderate potency steroid eye drops, 1 drop 4x/day for 1 week.

A female presented with itchy, watery eyes and ocular discomfort. Examination revealed conjunctival papillae, chemosis, and conjunctival injection, consistent with allergic conjunctivitis. This was managed with cool compresses, a combination antihistamine/mast cell stabiliser eye drop, and advice to avoid known allergens.

A 4 year old presented after their teacher reported trouble seeing the classroom board, and examination revealed a significant difference in prescription between the two eyes consistent with astigmatic amblyopia risk. This was treated with full time glasses, with follow up planned to check whether patching therapy is needed if the eyes remain unequal.

A 3.25 D difference in astigmatism between the two eyes

When one eye sends a blurrier image, the brain starts favouring the other, and if left uncorrected that gap and blurry vision becomes permanent

The cylinder difference is more than doubled the recognised amblyopia risk threshold

Left uncorrected, the difference between the two eyes doesn’t stay the same, it widens over time, and the window for correction doesn’t remain open indefinitely

For this patient, we fitted coloured contact lenses to improve the cosmetic appearance of arcus senilis while ensuring a comfortable fit and a patient-content result. We also referred the patient to their GP to rule out underlying hyperlipidaemia.
