Highgate Toastmasters is a local club of Toastmasters International, a worldwide non-profit educational organisation that empowers individuals to become more confident speakers, communicators and leaders. Established in 1924, Toastmasters International is headquartered in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, and the organisation's membership exceeds 357,000 in more than 16,600 clubs in 143 countries. Our club meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at St Albans Community Hall (423 Beaufort Street, Highgate WA 6003) from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Guests are always welcome. Our first meeting at the new location is now done and dusted. And what a great venue!

Highgate Toastmasters
Join us for our next meeting on Tuesday 18 August, starting 7pm (arrival around 6.45pm).
We meet at the large hall next to St Alban’s Anglican Church, Highgate. Enter via the driveway at St Alban’s Avenue.
Come and join us, whether you’re starting out or experienced. We’re here to help. Below is a summary of the main speeches from our last meeting.
Tristan gave us his first ever speech. He spoke about his early memories of getting stage fright at a school play, and learning about podcasts during Covid. Ella was his evaluator.
Jim was our second speaker. His speech title was "An Unsung Hero". Jim continued the story of Tom Crean from a previous speech. Tom Crean was a member of Robert Scott's Antarctic expedition in 1911 and was in the Royal Navy. Jim told the story of Tom Crean's early life, how he joined the Navy and how he ended up joining the polar expedition. Dave was the evaluator for Jim's speech.
Josh was our third speaker with his first ever speech. Josh told his story about how he studied philosophy at uni and joined the public service. Josh put into practise his learning from uni in a public policy department where he does policy research and implementation. Emily was the evaluator for Jim's speech.
Charles was the Table Topics Master and had a "Horses' Birthday" theme. Sara evaluated the Table Topics. Table Topics is an opportunity for members and guests to get up and give a short impromptu speech after being given a surprise question. It's great for interview preparation.
