And then, in the second half of our show, they whipped out their pom poms!

The thing I love about cheerleading for dancers is the teamwork it builds, AND also the way
the way it teaches kids that sometimes, your biggest job is to help someone else shine. 🌟

It’s not always just about getting the routine right. It’s also so much about trust. Communication. Listening to each other. Knowing your role, when to step up, and when to step back. And understanding that every single person has a part to play in making the whole team stronger.

And I think that’s such an important lesson for dancers to learn.
Because dance can sometimes feel like an individual pursuit.... your technique, your performance, your progress.
But when you get to be part of something where you literally have to rely on the person next to you, it all changes!!

You learn to celebrate someone else’s success as if it were your own. You learn that lifting someone else up (literally, or figuratively!) doesn’t take anything away from you.
In fact, it makes the whole team better.

Life lessons, learned with pom poms, eh? 😉

These dancers are phenomenal team members, and watching them always encourage and support each other is the best thing ever! ❤️

And we are ALL (yes, me included) supported by the incredible and irreplaceable Miss Emily, who does the best job ever of assisting the Essential class.

Well done to every one of our cheer-dancers on all your accomplishments last semester, we couldn't be prouder of you! 👏

These little dancing angels 😇 ✨️ were part of the big, spectacular Hairspray number, that I've already shared the snaps of.
But now allow me to share the two other incredible routines they also learned and performed last semester!

They did a sassy tap, which was SO fancy and so perfect, and SO much fun. With loads of practice, I think we really nailed those "fancy walks" in the end girls 😆💅

And they also did the most beautiful version of Thank You For The Music from Mamma Mia, and it actually filled my heart to hear them all singing along to the lyrics in class each week.
In their sweet little voices....
"Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it? I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance, what are we?
So I say thank you for the music, for giving it to me"

And oooopphhh... the parallels! 🥹
The joy these kids bring to the room each week.
The joy they bring to our lives when we see them happily dancing their little hearts out.

I dont know how we/I could live without it! 🩷🫶

A huge and important THANK YOU goes to our assistant teacher, (who also goes by the name Miss Rachel 😉 which is never confusing at all! 🤣) for all the tireless dedication she shows to helping this class each week! The accomplishments of these dancers are also a credit to you, and we all appreciate you!

No one hits it as hard as this group does! 💥

Here's some snaps of their second half routine, because as we all know, in our Broadway Showcase, they closed the show with the epic Hamilton collab.

But let's talk about their progress for a moment...

If I look back to where they were at, with their dancing, just a few years ago... to where they are now...
I can honestly say how impressed I am!
How proud I am!

Dancers...
Your improvement isn’t just noticeable... it’s constant.
I notice it.
Other dancers notice it.
Your families notice it.

Every year, you become stronger, more confident, more capable, and ready to take on things that probably would have seemed completely out of reach a few years ago.

Yes, I keep setting harder challenges. I keep pushing you a little further. I keep raising the expectations and moving the goalposts… but that only works because you keep meeting me there.
You smash the goal you worked so hard for, and suddenly we’re looking at the next one. You master something that once felt impossible, and so then we find something else to challenge you with. 👏

That's what growth looks like!

I love that we can now look back and truly see how far you have come.

So yes, I’ll probably keep making things harder.
Ill probably keep making you do "arm torture" every week 😉 and will force you to practice your grooves.
I’ll keep asking for more of you, because I know what you’re capable of.

And yes... I'm already preparing myself not to be one bit surprised when you keep showing up as the next best version of yourself, year after year. ❤️💥

I already shared their Hamilton collab with the Hip Hop class, but I have to share their second half routine also...

Because ohh, how we loved Landslide! 💙

Sometimes, a song is already special. The lyrics are beautiful, the melody gets under your skin, and it means something to you. And then a dancer steps onto the stage and somehow… they find another layer to it.
Maybe they listen to the music differently. Maybe they connect to the words you'd never really noticed, or highlight the pauses, the build, the emotion in the track.
Dancers take everything they hear and turn it into movement, and it's like we’re not just listening to the song anymore. We’re seeing it.

I think this is why some routines feel extra special... because they make us feel music we already love, in a different way.

Is it credit to the dancer?
Or is it the creative mind of the dance teacher??
The person who hears a song and thinks, “I know exactly what this needs…” before turning an already meaningful piece of music into a performance piece that we can't stop watching.
Maybe both. 😉🫶

We said it again this week, and its TRUE. There's a special kind of magic in the air between 8-9pm, on Monday nights at the studio.
When our Adult Lyrical class walks into the room. 🥹

This hour, with this group, always feels like so much more than just a dance class...

And to be honest, I think that Lyrical kind of requires a bit more than just showing up and learning the steps each week.

Its different.
It needs a bit of life experience to draw from. Stories and emotions to relate to.
The courage to be a bit vulnerable through movement, and also sometimes the courage to simply just try new things. Even when it feels foreign to your body, and your regular way of moving through life.

Lyrical stretches you a bit more.

And my goodness it is an honour to guide you all on that Lyrical journey each week!!

I so enjoyed creating this routine with you. Yes. WITH you. Its so much about you, and what we can create together.
You ultimately play such a part in how the dance ends up... even if you don't realise it at the time!

I love the funny moments we laugh about...

I think the "lining up at the post office" moment is now officially cemented in our memories, and is likely something we will now joke about for the rest of our dancing days 🤣

And I LOVE the moments when the choreography starts to become familiar in your body and I can push you a bit further...
"lengthen that arm more"
"collapse through your chest here" "
"try to balance a second longer"

Its so rewarding to see your growth... from the start of the semester to the end, its like you transform right before my eyes.

And I LOVE IT. 🥰

Thank you for being a part of our dance world. Thank you for your trust and vulnerability and dedication you give to each other, and to me.
YOU are all the reason Monday nights are so special ❤️

This feels like THE most exciting announcement! 🤩

We can't wait to welcome the formidable, and incredible, Josephine Magliolo to Unite Dance Studio over the school holidays.... to offer what will be such a special Lyrical workshop for our dancers. 🤍

Let me tell you a little bit about Josephine, from STELLA DANCE COMPANY

Josephine is a highly experienced dancer, choreographer, director and teacher with over 20 years of experience across the Australian and international dance industry.

Her career has seen her perform and choreograph across major productions including MATADOR and MANSION, with MATADOR touring nationally and internationally across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and New Zealand.
Her experience spans performance, choreography, touring, creative direction and working alongside leading artists and choreographers.

Josephine has also produced and directed her own work, including the sold-out More to C with Melbourne Fringe Festival.

In 2020, Josephine founded Stella Dance Company, creating a space where dancers can connect, create and tell stories through movement. Her work is grounded in one simple belief: human first, dancer second.

FUN CLUB is BAAACK! 🎉🎉🎉

And this time... its
Fun Club – The Cheerleader Edition! 🤸‍♀️💖🎀

Our last Fun Club was such a success that we just knew we had to bring this event back again for our dancers.
They literally demanded "when is the next one?" as they were walking out of the door at the end of the day 🤣

So this time, we have designed a special day especially for young dancers to live out their cheerleader dreams!

The day will include heaps of dancing, learning new skills, team-building and making new friends, and of course... it wouldn't be a Fun Club without a craft activity: all dancers will design and create their own Cheer Bow to take home 🎀

School holiday programs are about so much more than simply keeping kiddos busy. They provide an opportunity for them to build confidence, spark creativity, develop new skills, strengthen friendships and dive right in to an environment where they can simply be kids, have FUN, and let their imaginations shine.

Whether your child already dances every week or simply loves all things dance, we think Fun Club is the perfect way to spend a day these holidays ✨

If I'm being honest, of the greatest pleasures of being a dance teacher... is teaching kids like these ones. 🙌❤️

They're not just here for the applause.
Its not always just about the performance, or a trophy.
They actually love the journey. The growth. The challenge!!
The feeling of finally nailing something they’ve been working on for weeks (or months!).
They are the kids that actually WANT to just keep getting better more than anything!

And it makes my happy little teacher heart sing, truly 🎶 ...
When they ask questions.
When they try again and again.
When they push through and dont give up, even when something feels hard.

Its the exact attitude that makes ALL the difference!
Its the exact recipe for magic. 💫

To our dancers...
Both "Matilda" and "Buzzin" were so, SO good! Aaargh!
You put so much heart and energy into both routines, and it was insanely wonderful to watch you do so well on the stage.

I'm so grateful you have all found our dance studio, and it is your safe space to really push beyond your comfort zone and figure out what you're capable of.
Its so exciting to watch your journey!
And to cheer you on, as your confidence and determination continues to soar, is the greatest honour.

Keep it up legends. You know, and I know, you're only just getting started 😉

Thursdays are for Adult Tap a.k.a Tap Therapy 🤣🎉
And we just have the best time every week.
Tap does something to your soul. Truly. Those who know, know.
A Tap class just... fixes everything ❤️

Now let me gush about these ladies for just a moment, because ohh if I could only fully explain just HOW MUCH they achieved in the last semester!
And trust me, it wasn't just "learning a dance".

It was also..
♡ Learning steps that don't always come easily
♡ Remembering combinations and coordinating feet with rhythm and timing and positions
♡ Battling the negative internal thoughts that start to creep in when it all feels too challenging and makes you seriously question why on earth you decided to come back to Tap.
♡ Building strength and confidence in themselves to believe they could actually do it!
♡ Putting themselves out there, after years (or sometimes, decades) away from dance and being on the stage

And then there’s the reality of fitting all this and more into an already very full adult life. Work. Family. Responsibilities. Busy schedules. Tired bodies. Finding the time to come to class, practise, repeat the tricky bits, and keep going when your brain and feet absolutely refuse to cooperate.

Ladies. I see it all.
I get it.
I see every sacrifice and challenge you face each week... and also the commitment you made to yourself and to this class last semester.
Of course it goes without saying that I am proud of you, but more than this... I hope that YOU are proud of you.

Your performance was divine.
You were completely spectacular.
You danced with joy.
And I couldnt have loved it more!!

So I hope this moment on stage was the perfect reminder for you....
That you don’t have to be the dancer you were at 18. You don’t have to have perfect technique or a lifetime of training behind you. You simply have to be brave enough to start...or start again.

Its such an honour to Tap with you all each week.
Well done ladies. You're all the best 👏👏👏

Your stage presence really levelled up in the biggest way last semester. The faces. The attitude. The musicality. The confidence to perform BIG.

Its like you were saying to everyone who was watching you... “This is our stage, and we’re here to have fun!”

And honestly? It really was so fun to watch!

We’re so proud of how much you have all grown... not just as dancers, but as PERFORMERS. We love that you have discovered that Hip Hop isn’t just about getting the choreography right.
