As we wrap up Term 3, I would like to do a not so quick summary of all the excitement and success that our RSHS Academy is proud of. All worthy of individual posts however we have evidently been extremely busy this term.
π Schoolboys Cup Year 11/12 Melbourne Trip
To start us off, Rockingham SHS became the very first rugby league school in Western Australia to travel interstate and compete in the National Schoolboys Cup Competition. Our Year 11 & 12 Rugby League side travelled to Melbourne after winning the WA competition and competed against the winner of the Victorian competition, The Grange College.
Physically out matched against a very experienced team, we went down 60-10. However, the score does not reflect the efforts from our students, and it is a huge achievement to get our foot in the door and compete at this level, something we will learn from and be better for it going into next year. Our side fought to come back with 2 tries late in the game, proving they did not quit with our Man of the Match Billy Woolmer and our captain Taniela Te Rauna both scoring. It was a quick trip to Melbourne and the boys left determined to improve and be more committed in 2027.
π Schoolboys 9-a-side Rugby League Carnival Finals
Our Rugby League Academy took part in a finals campaign against other schools to become 9-a-side champions. NRLWA held a Year 7/8 and a separate 9/10 finals so our Year 8 and 10 school teams competed. Both of our teams made it through to the grand finals for each carnival against Aranmore Catholic College who proved to be a tough competitor in both grades. Our Year 8 team narrowly lost unfortunately, lacking depth in numbers and ran out of steam by the end however worked so hard all day. Meanwhile our Year 10βs went down to the wire with a last try to seal the win and become carnival champions for 2026.
π» Perth Bears Tracks Academy
RSHS would like to congratulate our students continuing in the Perth Bears Tracks Academy. We have a total of 8 students now enlisted with 3 new players earning an invite due to their achievements in club, state and schoolboys competitions throughout the year. Congratulations to Patrick Flanagan (Year 10), Billy Woolmer (Year 11) and Taniela Te Rauna (Year 12) who are now also representing RSHS in the Perth Bears junior pathway.
A special highlight however goes to our RSHS Year 10 captain Zane Murray who has earnt himself a 3 year Elite Emerging Contract with the Perth Bears and is officially the very first WA teenager to be signed to the new NRL club. A significant accomplishment that our Rockingham school is extremely proud of. Well done Zane, train the house down and prove to everyone WA has what it takes.
π NRLWA Schoolboys Trophy Semi Finals
In Week 10, all three grades from Year 8-10 participated in their Semi Finals for the interschool competition. Congratulations to our Year 8 and 10 teams for winning their respective games to progress through to the Grand Finals taking place in Term 4, more information to come for those games. Unfortunately, our Year 9βs fell short, losing a half time lead against Atwell College and will now miss out on retaining their trophy after an undefeated season in 2025. Lessons learnt and the boys will now look at rebuilding going into their Year 10 season next year.
π NRLWA Junior Club Grand Finals
A significant amount of our students recently participated in their junior club grand finals at Dorrien Gardens. Playing across multiple teams including Rockingham Sharks, Willagee Bears and Kwinana Titans we saw plenty of our Rockingham SHS community participating. While not every student found success that day it is still an incredible achievement to make it to a grand final and it should be something to be proud of still. Congratulations to all students who won their respective grand finals that day which include Kwinana Titans β Girls League Tag, Willagee Bears U13 boys and U14 girls, Rockingham Sharks U14 boys, Kwinana Titans U15 boys and Willagee Bears U17 boys.
Plenty more to come in Term 4. Have a great holiday everyone!
