Seven Steps to Writing Success provides an explicit, practical framework for teaching students how to become great writers.

It helps you create engaging writing classrooms where kids learn to love writing and become lifelong communicators. Designed by author, Jen McVeity, the Seven Steps breaks down writing into seven core elements that can be taught in less than 20 minutes a day. The Seven Steps provides an explicit and practical framework, empowering teachers to be confident in teaching and inspiring great writing in their students. Curriculum aligned and covering all text types, it can be used across all ability levels. Best of all, the Seven Steps can improve your students’ writing quickly – schools have reported up to a 35% increase in scores.

It started with one PD day.

In 2023, Dardanup Primary School identified a need for a more consistent, whole-school approach to writing. Three years on, their Year 3 cohort has recorded the highest literacy results in the South West and writing is now the school's strongest area across the board.

A mark tells you how a student did. It doesn't tell you what to teach them next.

Our AI-powered writing assessment tool does both: it marks against the Seven Steps and NAPLAN rubrics, then hands every teacher a customised Writing Improvement Plan for their class, linked to the training and resources that will make the biggest impact, ready to teach from day one of Term 4.

Better student writing starts with better teacher training 15/09/2026

What if the problem with student writing isn’t the students – but how we teach writing?

Our latest article in School News Australia looks at why better teacher training could be the key to better writing outcomes.

Read the full article and learn why teacher training matters.

Better student writing starts with better teacher training Kathleen Killick writes generations of teachers were trained to set and correct writing tasks, rather than teach writing skills.

AI-supported assessment doesn't replace teacher judgement, it gives teachers a stronger starting point.

As Susan Sim, Primary Curriculum Leader at Shepparton Christian College, puts it, the AI assessment tool provides a "springboard" for teachers to personalise feedback and identify areas for improvement.

That's the focus of our free leadership webinar, AI & Assessment: A Pragmatic Case for Schools, with Ben Lawless, assessment lecturer at the University of Melbourne. A practical look at how AI can support assessment, strengthen professional judgement and give teachers more time to focus on what students need next.

It's on tomorrow: Monday 7 September, 5–6pm (AEST).
