Want to make a future insurance claim a little less painful?
Do the boring stuff now 📋

Not glamorous, we know. No one’s framing this post and hanging it in the lounge room.

But these simple habits can save a lot of grief later:
✅ keep your policy details up to date
✅ make sure the right people and property are listed
✅ keep records, receipts or photos where it makes sense
✅ understand what your policy actually covers
✅ ask questions before you need to claim, not during the panic

Insurance works best when the information behind it is current and accurate.

A little admin now can make the claims process much smoother later.
Boring? Yes. Helpful? Also yes.

Queenslanders know severe weather season has a habit of showing up uninvited ⛈️

That’s why September is a smart time to get organised before October rolls around.

A few simple things can make a real difference:
🏠 know where your important documents are
🏠 make sure policy details are easy to find
🏠 take a fresh look at your sums insured
🏠 check if your emergency plan still makes sense for your household or business

Nobody wants to be hunting for paperwork while the weather is carrying on like a pork chop.

Preparedness won’t stop a storm, but it can absolutely reduce the stress that comes with one.

If you’d like us to review your cover before storm season ramps up, get in touch.

Small business tip: don’t assume your courier automatically covers the full value of your goods 📦

A lot of business owners think once something is handed over for delivery, that’s the end of the worry. Not quite.

Delivery providers may have limits around what they compensate for if goods are lost or damaged. That means the amount you recover may not match the actual value of what was sent.

If you’re sending valuable stock, equipment or products, it’s worth checking:
📦 what the delivery company covers
📦 what the maximum payout is
📦 whether extra protection is needed

Because “I thought it would be covered” is one of the least enjoyable business phrases on earth.

If your business ships goods, this is well worth reviewing.

Tomorrow is World Maritime Day 🚢

For businesses that move goods, import products or rely on shipping, Marine & Cargo insurance can be one of those covers people don’t think much about… until something goes missing, damaged or delayed.

If your business depends on stock arriving safely, the risk doesn’t stop once the goods leave the supplier.

Marine & Cargo cover can help protect goods while they’re in transit, and for some businesses that can make a very big difference to cash flow and continuity.

The short version?
If your goods are travelling, the risk is travelling too.

If you’d like to understand whether Marine & Cargo cover is relevant to your business, we’re happy to talk it through.

Closing a business doesn’t always close the risk 🚪

A lot of people assume once the doors are shut, the insurance story ends there too. Not always.

Depending on the type of work you’ve done, claims can sometimes come later — even after the business has stopped trading.

That’s why run-off cover can matter, particularly where Professional Indemnity or liability exposures are involved.

In plain English?
Just because the business has wrapped up doesn’t mean an old issue can’t come back and knock on the door.

This one often flies under the radar, because by the time someone thinks about it, they’ve already mentally packed up and moved on.

If you’re winding up a business, or planning to, it’s worth getting advice before cancelling everything in one hit.

Sole trader? Here’s something a lot of people don’t realise 👇

If you’re a sole trader, workers compensation generally doesn’t cover you the way it covers employees.

That surprises plenty of people.

So if you’re the business owner, the worker, the one doing the quoting, the invoicing and the coffee run, it’s worth thinking about what happens if you’re injured and can’t work.

That’s where having the right personal protection conversation matters. For many sole traders, Personal Accident cover is worth a closer look.

Because if you’re the engine room of the business, protecting yourself matters just as much as protecting the tools, stock, vehicle or office.

You are not optional equipment.

Before you sign that contract… check the insurance clause first ✍️

A lot of business owners focus on the job, the deadline and the dollars. Fair enough. But the insurance section in a contract can quietly cause headaches if you skim over it.

Some contracts spell out what cover you need and what you could be liable for. If your policy doesn’t match those obligations, you may have a problem before the work even begins.

That’s especially important for businesses dealing with:
✅ Professional Indemnity
✅ Public Liability
✅ Contract work
✅ Subcontractor arrangements

The boring pages in the contract folder are often the ones that bite hardest later.

If you’re not sure what a contract is requiring from an insurance point of view, ask before signing. Much cheaper than guessing.

Did you renovate… but forget to update your insurance? 🔨

A new kitchen. A fresh bathroom. An extension. A deck. Better fittings. Solar. Fancy new bits and pieces that started as “just a small project” and somehow ended with your weekends disappearing for three months.

When your home changes, the cost to rebuild it can change too.

That means if your policy hasn’t been updated, your cover may no longer reflect what you actually have.

Same goes for contents. One new TV becomes another appliance, then furniture, then “how did we spend that much at Bunnings?”

If you’ve upgraded your property, it’s worth reviewing your policy. Better to update it now than regret it later.

A common mistake with home insurance?
Thinking your home’s market value is the same as the cost to rebuild it 🏠

It’s not.

Your property’s market value includes the land. Insurance is about what it could cost to rebuild the home itself. And with building costs, clean-up, trades, fees and temporary accommodation all part of the bigger picture, those numbers can be very different.

This is where people can end up underinsured without even realising it.

It’s not exactly thrilling Friday reading, I know. But neither is finding out your cover falls short after a claim.

If it’s been a while since you reviewed your Home & Contents insurance, now’s a good time.

Tomorrow is R U OK? Day 💛

It’s a simple reminder that checking in on someone can matter more than we realise.

You don’t need the perfect words. You don’t need a counselling degree. And you definitely don’t need to solve everything over one cup of coffee.

Sometimes it’s just:
“Hey, you seem a bit flat lately — are you okay?”

For business owners especially, life can look “fine” from the outside while things are feeling pretty heavy behind the scenes.

So this is your little reminder from us: check in on your people. Mates, family, colleagues, clients… whoever pops into your mind.

A simple conversation can make a real difference.
