Join the ASRC team this Wednesday 2 September at Beetle Cafe in Dandenong for a coffee and a chat about the issues that matter to you.

We want to hear your views on the policies and laws affecting refugee communities, what changes you want to see, and what you think we should be advocating for.

We recently held a Falls Prevention Workshop at North Dandenong Neighbourhood House on Wednesday, 26th August, and it was very well received by everyone who attended.

The session covered a range of practical and important topics, including:

- Why falls happen and common risk factors
- Simple balance and strength exercises
- Safe walking techniques
- Identifying and reducing tripping hazards
- The importance of regular health and safety checks

A big thank you to Stephen Downs, Senior Clinician, and Ing Tjahjono, Senior Registered Nurse, from Uniting AgeWell for delivering such an informative and practical session.

We would also like to thank Simon Avrutis for organising the session for us.

It was wonderful to see our community members taking part, learning useful strategies, and sharing their experiences. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

FLU & COVID INCREASING IN VICTORIA

What you can do:
• Respiratory infections such as influenza (flu) and COVID-19 are increasing in Victoria. This year, this is occurring later than previous seasons.
• Vaccines are available to protect against common respiratory infections.
• Seasonal influenza vaccination is still widely available and with cases now increasing, it is not too late to get vaccinated.
• Some people, including young children, older adults and those with a weakened immune system, are at increased risk of severe disease.
• Early antiviral treatments can help to reduce severe disease from flu and COVID-19 for some high-risk individuals.
• Simple hygiene and preventive measures like covering coughs and sneezes, regular hand washing and staying home when sick can help reduce the spread of respiratory infections.

What a great turnout for our composting workshop at North Dandenong Neighbourhood House!

Thank you to everyone who came along to learn the ins and outs of composting, from what to throw in the bin to keeping it balanced and turning food scraps into garden gold. It was wonderful to see everyone getting hands-on and asking great questions.

A big thank you to our facilitators for sharing their knowledge, and to everyone who joined in making our community a little greener, one compost bin at a time.
