October is National Safe Work Month across Australia, and this year’s theme is Safe Work is for Life.

Safety isn't just a daily checklist - it’s about protecting health, wellbeing, and long-term capability both at work and beyond. At Rise, we support individuals returning to work after physical or psychological injuries.

We know recovery isn't a solo journey. That’s why we work collaboratively alongside GPs, physios, exercise physiologists, and Return to Work case managers to ensure every individual gets the comprehensive, long-term support they need. 🤝

Waiting until you feel 100% confident or "ready" before stepping up? That's a common performance obstacle. 🧠

In performance psychology, confidence isn't a prerequisite - it's a byproduct. You don't build genuine self-efficacy through positive thinking; you build it by taking deliberate action despite feeling nervous or uncertain.

Next time you feel hesitation creep in under pressure, shift your focus from how you feel to what you need to execute. Take the step, and let the confidence follow. ⚡️

You might have heard of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), but what actually is it?

While it’s widely recognised as a gold-standard, evidence-based treatment for PTSD and trauma, EMDR is also becoming an incredibly valuable tool in the performance space.

Sarah breaks down how we use EMDR at Rise to help athletes and performers navigate:
- Performance anxiety & nerves
- Emotional dysregulation
- Mental blocks holding back progress

By helping the brain reprocess past setbacks or anxiety triggers, EMDR allows performers to break through barriers and stay present when it counts most.

A huge congratulations to our very own Sarah, who recently officially gained her endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist! ✨

Gaining a clinical endorsement is a massive milestone - following her Master’s degree, Sarah completed 3,000 hours of clinical practice, including 80 hours of direct supervision and extensive professional development.

Sarah shares how her deep clinical grounding enriches her work at Rise:

🧠 Bridging Clinical & Performance: Understanding how presentations like anxiety, depression, ADHD, and mood intersect with high-pressure environments.

🎯 Specialised Focus on Anxiety: Working with athletes, performers, and high-achieving individuals to navigate pressure, self-expectation, and performance nerves.

🌱 Holistic Wellbeing: Helping clients improve not just their function on the field or stage, but their overall quality of life.

With R U OK? Day coming up this Thursday, it’s a great time to reflect on how we show up for the people around us.

Asking the question is a powerful first step, but knowing how to navigate the conversation can sometimes feel daunting. If you notice a teammate, friend, or colleague who seems a bit off or overwhelmed lately, here is a simple framework to guide you.

Connection is at the heart of everything we do at Rise because resilience and performance always start with feeling supported.

Keep these steps in mind as we head into the week, you never know how much a simple check-in might mean to someone. 💛

A simple question that can change a day. 💛

You don't need to be an expert to reach out to someone who might be struggling, you just need to be willing to listen.

While today brings mental health into the spotlight, the core message of "Ask R U OK? Any Day" is a great reminder for all of us. Supporting teammates, friends, and family isn't a once-a-year event; it’s an ongoing habit of connection.

Take a moment today to check in on someone in your circle. A quick coffee, a message, or an honest conversation can make all the difference.

With winter sporting seasons wrapping up and finals series in full swing across local community clubs, dealing with tough losses is a reality many athletes are facing right now. 🏆

Our placement student, Ruby, recently finished her own soccer season through a finals loss. As part of her learning at Rise, she put together a few practical ways she navigates high-stakes losses:

What I have found works for me is understanding that the loss and your sport doesn’t define you, and that you are a person before an athlete.

During the game, remember to stay present and if you notice your thoughts shifting to the past mistakes or what could happen in the future, bring yourself back to your actions in the current moment.

It’s important to have different hobbies, interests and events already planned to fill your time, especially ones that you look forward to.

It’s useful to use the off-season as a time to reset and try different forms of exercise that may be exciting, fun or that you may not have time to participate in when in-season to remember your why to playing sports in the first place.

Shifting your perspective and focusing on what you could control prior to and during the game, such as your effort and mindset demonstrate that you have given it everything, and the losses are not within our control.

If you are playing a team sport, remember to support and get around your teammates as you all have gone through the experience together.

Coping with the loss may be difficult, but it’s extra fuel for the fire and motivation for next season to go even further.

We’re excited to have Ruby joining us at Rise for her third-year Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) placement!

Ruby aspires to work as a Performance Psychologist post-graduation. Having played soccer since she was 6 years old, she has a firsthand understanding of the mental side of sport and performance.

During her placement, she’ll be shadowing the team both in the clinic and out in the field to see how performance psychology is applied in real-world environments.

Welcome to the team, Ruby! Drop a message below to say hello 👋
