Awww our beautiful Chicken 🐨 it really does take a village to help a koala 💚

Meet Chicken… and his chicken drumstick 🐨🍗
This little orphaned koala joey came into our RSPCA Wildlife Hospital after he was found alone on the ground, possibly after taking a fall.

Thankfully, Chicken was doing well, but without his mum by his side, he needed a little extra comfort.

Enter: his very own plush chicken drumstick 🍗

After being given the all-clear, Chicken headed to a specialised wildlife carer. When he’s ready, he’ll move on to koala kindy to build his strength, socialise and learn the skills he’ll need before eventually returning to the wild 🐨🌿

Sadly, koalas are listed as endangered in Queensland – and they’re far from alone 💔

This year alone, another 34 species have been added to Australia’s threatened species list. More than 1,000 species of plants and animals in Queensland are now listed as threatened, including koalas, greater gliders, northern hairy-nosed wombats and glossy black-cockatoos.

The main threats? Habitat loss, invasive species, climate impacts and human pressures.

With today, Monday 7th September, being National Threatened Species Day, it's a reminder of just how important it is for us all to play a part in protecting our native wildlife.

How can you help? 👇

‼️ Stay alert while driving, especially at dawn and dusk when wildlife are most active

☎️ Call 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625) or your local wildlife rescue group if you find sick or injured wildlife

🚗 Keep a wildlife rescue kit in your car to safely transport small animals to a vet, where appropriate

🦘 Pouch checks can save lives – if you find an injured marsupial, always check for young

🚮 Pick up and dispose of rubbish to help prevent wildlife becoming entangled in or eating it

🐨 WELCOME HOME, ATLAS! 💚

After spending more than 3 months on his latest hospital holiday, this beautiful big boy is finally back home in Petrie! 🥰

We’re so happy to see Atlas back where he belongs and hope he can stay out of trouble and enjoy some well-deserved time at home.

Atlas is a reminder of just how important it is for all of us to look out for our local wildlife.

Please keep an eye out for Atlas and his furry friends, especially when walking your pets.

🐕 Remember: keeping your dogs on a leash and under control while out walking can help protect our precious wildlife from injury and stress.

🌿Funday at Lee’s house! 🐨

Well, this little fella decided to drop in for a surprise visit! 🤣 Our koala friend found his way into Lee’s house through a doggy door that was no longer in use… because apparently koalas don’t believe in knocking! 🚪🐨

After having a little look around, he decided the perfect place to settle in was up the wall, perched on Lee’s Buddha statue. 🧘‍♂️

While it may have made for a great photo opportunity, Lee wasn’t quite ready to volunteer for a full claw renovation! 😂 So he wisely called for help.

Our team safely removed his unexpected houseguest, who was more than happy to head back outside and get back to what koalas do best, sinking those claws into some tasty gum leaves! 🌿 A happy ending for everyone… besides Lee’s wall 😬

KOALA BUSHCARE – TOMORROW in STRATHPINE 🐨

Join us for a Bushcare working bee tomorrow 30th August 2026!

Even if you can only help for an hour, you can make a world of difference. Your help with this project will help extend koala habitat, with trees being planted during Spring. 🌿🐨

📍 Where: Bells Pocket Rd STRATHPINE
➡️ The site is 150m inside the main entrance of Rob Akers Reserve. Look out for the bushcare sign.
🕢 Time: 8am – 10:00am
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families welcome!
🧤 Tools will be supplied along with morning tea ☕️ but please bring any tools you would like to use.
👟 Wear closed-in shoes

On Thursday, we received a call from Petrie State School about a very special little emergency. 🐨🚨

Poor Polly had accidentally dropped her precious joey, Pocket! Thankfully, the wonderful teachers at the school were quick to act, and our team was able to step in and safely bring both Polly and Pocket to the wildlife hospital to check Pocket didn’t suffer any injuries from his fall. Thankfully he bounced just right.💚

We’re so happy to say this afternoon, Polly and Pocket were happily released back into the beautiful school grounds they call home.

A huge thank you to the wonderful staff at Petrie State School for keeping a close eye on Polly and Pocket and for acting so quickly when they needed help. 💚

🐨💚 FROM ACCIDENT TO A SECOND CHANCE! 💚🐨

A huge thank you to Sharon for doing the right thing when it mattered most. After accidentally hitting a koala, Sharon immediately called for help, and that quick response gave Matta the best possible chance of survival. 🙏

Today, we had the absolute joy of watching Matta return home to where he belongs 💚back to the wild! 🌿🐨 of course, Matta made sure to give us plenty of his famous facials along the way! 😂😝🐨

Accidents happen. 💔 What you do next can make all the difference.
