Falling bank confidence leads to losses on Wall Street 📉

US indices fell on Friday despite attempts by the market to re-assure confidence in the Banks. Oil (Brent) traded -2.7% lower, with the current price per barrel sitting at $72.69. Gold increased by 3.6%, with the precious metal currently worth $1989.25 an ounce.

Silicon Valley Bank (NASDAQ:SVB) collapsed on Friday as it was taken over by FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation). The collapse of SVB came after the stock tumbled 60% on Thursday amidst a $2.25 billion equity sale after reporting a $1.8 billion loss. The FDIC taking over on Friday to attempted to ensure that some customers receive deposits and some secured creditors receive payment.

US indices saw a mixed trading session on Friday, as investors attempted to position themselves for this week's minutes and PCE releases. Oil (Brent) traded 2.5% lower, with the current price per barrel sitting at $83.00. Gold increased by 0.3%, with the precious metal currently worth $1842.36 an ounce. Market volatility, as measured by the VIX Index, decreased by 0.74%.
