The NSW Independent Planning Commission has approved the HVO Continuation Project.
This is a significant outcome for Hunter Valley workers, their families and our local communities.
More than 1,500 workers depend directly on HVO, along with the many local businesses and communities supported by those jobs.
The approval helps secure good, well-paid mining jobs and provides greater certainty for workers and their families, while giving our region more time to build new industries, investment and opportunities for the future.
A huge congratulations and thank you to every worker, family and community member who stood up, spoke out and supported the continuation of HVO.

Premier Coal workers have helped power WA for generations. Now the mine is approaching closure, and the company is asking them to vote on what could be their last Enterprise Agreement.
Last agreement. Best agreement. Premier and Yancoal can afford to do better.
The MEU and AMWU are calling on Premier Coal workers to VOTE NO and send the company back to the bargaining table. Voting NO keeps negotiations going. Your vote is secret.
🗳️ Voting opens 8am Tuesday 29 September and closes 4pm Thursday 1 October.

Are we all backing the team that backs coal miners this week? ⚒️🔴🔵
The Knights started their season with a trip underground, and look how it turned out! How many other teams will be lining up for a mine visit next year?
We know plenty of our members barrack for other teams. But come on. HOW GOOD WAS THAT?! 🏆
A mining career leaves you with stories that deserve to be heard. Retired Mineworkers WA gives former workers space to share their memories and reflect on the people they worked alongside.

Great to meet with the newly elected ACTU Secretary Melissa Donnelly at the MEU Central Council last week!
Melissa has fought for working people for decades, becoming active in the Union moevement during the Your Rights at Work campaign, before stepping up into the leadership of the Community and Public Sector Union. Under her leadership, the CPSU has grown by almost 25%, and we're thrilled that she will bringing this energy to one of the toughest jobs in the movement.
Melissa has big shoes to fill following the tenure of Sally McManus, but we're confident in her leadership, excited to work with her, and grateful for her stopping by to chat about the issues that matter most to Mining and Energy Union members.
We also had the opportunity to formally thank outgoing ACTU President Michele O'Neil for her service to working people, and wish her well in whatever she decides to tackle next.

Honoured to send off two titans of the Union movement at our Central Council last night. With this being the final meeting before Michael O'Connor and Michele O'Neil hang up their hats after decades of service to working people, we we sure to give them a warm MEU farewell.
In her role as ACTU President, Michele has overseen some of the greatest achievements of the union movement in decades, winning stronger rights for Unions and workers. Michele spoke of her deep respect for our Union, for MEU members, and for the work they do to keep Australia running.
Michael has been a close comrade of the MEU for the entirety of his Union career, standing shoulder-to-shoulder alongside our members and officials through some of our greatest challenges as a Union. He credited the MEU as being a yardstick for the movement, looked to for our moral compass, describing us as the safety lamp of the union movement, shining a light on what matters most.
We thank Michele and Michael for their tremendous sacrifices and dedication they've put into creating a better future for working Australians.

These Premier Coal workers have kept the mine running, powered Western Australia and generated enormous wealth for Yancoal.
Now, as the mine approaches closure, Yancoal are refusing to offer them a fair deal.
Workers deserve decent pay rises for the years they have left and ironclad protection of their redundancy entitlements when their jobs end. They should never be forced to choose between the two.
Premier workers are united, determined and moving towards protected industrial action.
It’s time for Yancoal to stop playing games and put a fair deal on the table.
✊ Fair pay. Secure entitlements. Respect for Premier workers.
Same coal seam. Same work. Same gear. But Ulan Underground workers are paid 11.5% less than workers at the mine next door.
Ulan Lodge President Matthew Purtle says Glencore can afford fair pay and secure, permanent jobs for people who live in the Mudgee region.
Instead, contractor numbers have surged while just 12 new permanent workers have been employed since the agreement expired two years ago.
Glencore makes enormous profits from Ulan. It’s time the company invested in the workers and community that generate its wealth.

A few more beautiful photos from this year’s Northern District Memorial Day service.
It was wonderful to see so many members, families and friends come together to remember the Northern District mineworkers we have lost and stand alongside those whose lives have been forever changed.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this important day. 🕯️
