🐞🔬 Mini Beasts & Garden Explorers! 🌿

Our little explorers have been busy discovering the fascinating world of insects and tiny garden creatures! The children ventured into the garden, carefully searching for mini beasts and observing what they could find.

Using microscopes, the children took a closer look at insects and natural materials, noticing details that are difficult to see with the naked eye. They shared their ideas, asked questions and developed their own theories about what they were observing.

Our Tuff Tray sensory exploration brought another layer of learning, as the children investigated insects and used ink to explore patterns, shapes and marks.

Through these experiences, the children were developing their:

It was wonderful to see the children’s curiosity lead the learning as they explored, wondered, questioned and shared their discoveries with one another! 🌿✨

As spring blossoms around us, our learning community has been immersed in noticing the many changes taking place within our natural environment. The children have been using their senses to explore the world around them, noticing new and different smells carried through the air, observing tiny ladybugs amongst the greenery, and watching our gardens and fruit trees flourish.

Our mulberries, passionfruit, tomatoes, lemons and limes have provided wonderful opportunities for children to observe the natural cycles of growth, change and renewal. Through caring for our gardens, watering plants and closely monitoring their progress, children are developing an understanding that living things require care, patience and nurturing to thrive.

These everyday experiences have encouraged meaningful conversations about sustainability and our responsibility to care for our environment. The children are beginning to recognise that our actions have an impact on the world around us and that when we care for our planet, it gives back to us through fresh produce, beautiful natural spaces, shade, habitat and opportunities to connect with nature.

Through our ongoing connection with the natural environment, we are fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging children to tread gently on Country—to respect, protect and care for the land, plants, animals and living things that share our environment.

Spring has provided us with a beautiful reminder that when we nurture nature, nature nurtures us in return. 🌱

A big thank you to Dental and Optical 2 You for visiting our Kindergarten and providing such a valuable and engaging learning experience. Their visit further strengthened the children’s understanding of oral health, hygiene and the importance of caring for our teeth, while also introducing meaningful conversations about eye health and ways we can protect our vision.

Through interactive discussions and hands-on learning, the children were encouraged to develop greater awareness of healthy habits, personal hygiene and the importance of caring for our bodies. We particularly appreciated the warm, patient and inclusive approach taken throughout the visit, allowing each child to participate at their own pace and in a way that felt comfortable for them. Every child was supported as an individual, helping to create a safe and reassuring experience where they felt valued, respected and confident to engage.

Experiences like these empower children with knowledge and practical strategies that support their health, wellbeing and growing independence.

We are grateful for the opportunity to extend our learning beyond the classroom and help children build lifelong understandings around caring for themselves and their bodies. Thank you, Dental and Optical 2 You, for helping make learning about health both meaningful and fun, while ensuring every child felt comfortable, supported and heard throughout the experience.

Today, we explored the magic of artistic and creative expression through a collaborative painting experience. The children and educators dressed in white shirts, transforming themselves into living canvases and creating an exciting opportunity for self-expression, connection and creativity.
We gathered outdoors and carefully set up a range of colourful paints and paintbrushes.

As the experience unfolded, the children became increasingly enthusiastic and immersed in the creative process. They made independent choices about colours, experimented with different brushstrokes and explored how paint could be used to transform a plain white shirt into a vibrant, individual creation. The sounds of laughter and excitement filled the outdoor space as the children shared ideas, interacted with one another and celebrated each other’s artistic contributions.

This experience provided rich opportunities for children to develop their creative thinking, confidence, decision-making and fine motor skills, while also encouraging collaboration and social connection. Painting alongside their friends created a sense of belonging and encouraged children to communicate, negotiate, share resources and participate in a shared creative experience.

It was particularly meaningful to see the children proudly wearing their colourful creations and recognising that each shirt represented a collection of shared moments and contributions from their friends. Through this experience, the children discovered that art does not always need to have a predetermined outcome—it can be about exploring, experimenting, expressing ideas and enjoying the process of creation.

What began as a simple painting activity became a beautiful celebration of friendship, imagination and individuality, reminding us of the magic that unfolds when children are given the freedom to express themselves creatively.

Long before children enter our early learning spaces, their families are their first and most influential teachers. Through everyday moments of connection, conversation, play and love, children begin to discover who they are, where they belong and how they connect with the world around them.
We are grateful for the privilege of partnering with our families and recognise the knowledge, culture, values and experiences each family brings to their child’s learning journey.

Yesterday, we celebrated the heart and roots of our sector — our incredible educators.

Our educators are so much more than the people who care for and educate children each day. They are nurturers, advocates, researchers, listeners, storytellers, co-learners and trusted companions throughout some of the most important years of a child’s life.

They create spaces where children feel safe, seen, heard and valued. They nurture curiosity, champion children’s rights, build meaningful relationships with families and recognise each child as capable, competent and full of possibility.

While Early Childhood Educators Day gives us a special opportunity to pause and acknowledge their contribution, our gratitude extends far beyond today.

We acknowledge and celebrate the role our educators play each and every day. The relationships they build, the quiet moments they notice, the environments they thoughtfully curate and the love, intention and professionalism they bring to their practice, leaving lasting footprints in the lives of our children and families.

Book Week 2026

This Book Week, we have embraced the beautiful theme “A Symphony of Stories,” inviting our children to immerse themselves in the magic of storytelling, imagination and wonder.
Throughout the week, stories have extended far beyond the pages of a book. Our children became the authors, illustrators and characters and together explored storytelling through active and engaging provocations, puppetry, symbols, role play, dramatic performances and shared conversations, discovering the many different ways stories can be told, interpreted and brought to life.
These experiences have created opportunities for children to become not only listeners, but storytellers, creators, performers and meaning-makers themselves. Through imagination and play, familiar stories have been reimagined, new narratives have emerged, and beautiful connections have been formed between children, educators and the stories we share. Our children and families also embraced Book Week by exploring our dedicated STEM and library Studio throughout the morning's and afternoons - an invitation to share in why we celebrate language and literacy each and every day.

A huge thank you to our Redlands Fire and Rescue for visiting our centre this week!

Our children enjoyed meaningful yarns with the team about fire safety, the important work they do within our community, and what a day in the life of a community firefighter looks like. We explored the difference between good and bad fire, how firefighters help protect our community, and the many ways they keep people safe.

Our children had the opportunity to ask questions, share their knowledge, and proudly tell our visitors all about our own fire evacuation procedures.
We are incredibly grateful for the time, knowledge and genuine connection you shared with our children.

Experiences like these help build children’s understanding, confidence and sense of belonging within their wider community.

As we celebrate Early Learning Matters week at First Five, we reflect on our service philosophy that we celebrate who children are right now. We are passionate in expressing that the first five years of a child's life are to be treasured, nurtured, challenged, supported and valued.

Play is the foundation of early learning. Through meaningful, child-led play, children develop confidence, creativity, problem-solving skills, language, social connections, and a lifelong love of learning. Every moment of play is an opportunity to explore, discover, and make sense of the world around them, laying strong foundations for future success. As co-learners alongside our children, we as educators have the opportunity to utilise our environment as the third teacher and are able to step aside to observe and analyse how our children drive their own learning.

Our children have been immersed in a rich inquiry into cause and effect, driven by their natural curiosity and desire to discover how the world works. Through hands-on investigations and partnering with Kindy Science, we explored what happens when different materials interact, testing their theories, making predictions, and revisiting their ideas as new discoveries unfolded.

As children experimented with a variety of natural and open-ended materials, they observed changes, identified patterns, and asked thoughtful questions such as, "What will happen if...?" and "Why did that change?" These moments of wonder encouraged our children to think critically, solve problems collaboratively and embrace the process of investigation rather than focusing solely on an outcome.
By following children's questions and valuing their hypotheses, we recognise them as capable, competent protagonists of their own learning.

Our inquiry-based approach fosters scientific thinking, creativity, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning, while nurturing children's confidence to explore, question, and make sense of the world around them.
