Not sure if that mole has changed?

A professional skin check can assess your skin, while Total Body Mapping creates a photographic baseline for future comparison.

It may be helpful if you have lots of moles, fair skin, past sun exposure or a family history of melanoma.

Sunstate Family Practice has cared for the local community since 2009, and our modern Victoria Point premises were designed to make every visit feel comfortable and well supported.

Our practice includes:

🏥 Spacious consultation rooms
📸 A purpose-built area for skin checks and Total Body Mapping
🩹 A dedicated procedure room with multiple treatment bays
💉 Facilities for childhood immunisations, iron infusions and wound care

As general practitioners, our doctors support patients from infancy through to older age, while also bringing individual areas of clinical interest, including skin cancer detection and management.

One of the most rewarding parts of community general practice is caring for multiple generations of the same family, sometimes three or four generations under one roof.

Whether you’re new to the area or looking for ongoing family care, new patients are welcome.

Wondering what actually happens during a Total Body Mapping appointment?

Here’s what you can expect at Sunstate Family Practice:

1. Getting ready
A nurse will take you into the dedicated TBM room, where you’ll undress to your underwear and be provided with a gown.

2. Standardised photography
You’ll stand in a series of set positions while images are taken using consistent angles and framing.

3. Doctor review
Your GP will review the images, discuss any spots you are concerned about and assess your skin.

4. A clear plan
Together, you’ll discuss next steps, including when to return for another skin check and whether any procedures are recommended.

Your comfort and privacy are prioritised throughout the appointment.

Women’s health isn’t one appointment or one stage of life.

Maybe your contraception no longer suits you.
Maybe your periods have changed.
Maybe you’re planning a pregnancy, navigating menopause, or simply wondering whether something you’ve noticed is “normal”.

That’s where having a GP you’re comfortable talking to matters.

At Sunstate Family Practice, our doctors can support women across a range of health needs, including:

🌸 Contraception and family planning
🌸 IUD/Mirena and Implanon options with appropriately trained GPs
🌸 Sexual and reproductive health
🌸 Antenatal care
🌸 Preventative health and general check-ups

And because women’s health rarely fits neatly into a five-minute conversation, Sunstate offers longer standard GP appointments with a patient-centred approach.

This Women’s Health Week, don’t keep putting that question or concern off.

This Daffodil Day, we stand with Australians affected by cancer and recognise the families, carers, healthcare professionals and researchers supporting them.

The daffodil represents hope, but awareness also needs to lead to action.

That may mean:

🌼 Participating in recommended cancer screening
🌼 Booking an appointment about a new or persistent symptom
🌼 Supporting someone through treatment
🌼 Protecting your skin and attending regular skin checks
🌼 Donating to help fund cancer research and support services

At Sunstate Family Practice, our GPs are here to support patients with preventive care, screening conversations, referrals and ongoing healthcare throughout every stage of their journey.

This 20 August, wear yellow, start a conversation and help hope grow.

Healthy sleep supports your concentration, mood, immune system and physical health. But consistently feeling tired is not something you should simply learn to live with.

During Australian Sleep Health Week, consider whether you regularly experience:

😴 Difficulty falling or staying asleep
⏰ Waking unrefreshed despite enough time in bed
🧠 Poor concentration or irritability
🔊 Loud snoring, choking or gasping during sleep
🥱 Daytime sleepiness that affects work, driving or daily life

These symptoms may be linked to stress, lifestyle factors, medication or an underlying sleep disorder.

A GP can help explore possible causes and recommend the appropriate next steps.

Book an appointment at Sunstate Family Practice to discuss ongoing sleep concerns.

Traditional skin checks give your GP a detailed look at your skin at one point in time. Total Body Mapping takes that further.

By capturing a consistent photographic baseline in standardised positions, TBM allows your doctor to compare your skin over time and identify changes that may not be obvious from memory alone.

This can support:

🔎 Earlier detection of melanoma, when it may be thinner and more treatable
📸 More reliable monitoring of moles and lesions
🩹 Fewer unnecessary biopsies when a spot can be shown to have remained stable
🧭 Clearer planning for future skin checks

TBM works alongside a clinical skin examination and dermoscopy to give your GP a more complete picture of your skin.

Your skin is your body's largest organ and one of its hardest-working organs.

It protects you from the environment, helps regulate body temperature, and serves as your first line of defence against infection. That's why World Skin Health Day is about more than just preventing sunburn; it's about looking after your skin all year round.

Here are a few simple ways to keep your skin healthy:
☀️ Wear broad-spectrum SPF every day, even in winter.
👒 Protect yourself with hats, sunglasses, and protective clothing when outdoors.
🔍 Get to know your skin so you can recognise new or changing spots.
🩺 Book regular skin checks, particularly if you have fair skin, spend a lot of time outdoors, or have a personal or family history of skin cancer.

At Sunstate Family Practice, we offer comprehensive skin checks and Total Body Mapping for patients who may benefit from closer skin monitoring.

Healthy skin starts with awareness, and early detection remains one of the best ways to protect it.

One of the biggest reasons people delay a skin check is fear of what happens if something suspicious is found.

The good news? Most spots can be assessed and managed with a clear, step-by-step approach.

At Sunstate Family Practice, if your GP identifies a lesion that needs further investigation, they may recommend:

🔬 A biopsy - where a small sample is taken and sent to a pathology laboratory for testing.

✂️ An excision - where the entire lesion is removed and sent for testing, helping confirm whether it has been completely treated.

Our purpose-built treatment rooms allow us to manage most skin cancer care in-house, from diagnosis through to biopsies and many surgical procedures. If a more complex procedure is needed, we'll discuss your options and refer you to the most appropriate specialist.

Our goal is simple: to make the process as straightforward, reassuring, and timely as possible.

📅 If you've noticed a new or changing spot, don't wait. Booking a skin check is the first step towards protecting your skin health - https://sunstatefamilypractice.com.au/make-an-appointment/

Not everyone needs Total Body Mapping (TBM), but for people at higher risk of skin cancer, it can be an invaluable tool for ongoing monitoring.

You may benefit from discussing TBM with your GP if you:
☀️ Have had melanoma or another type of skin cancer before
👨👩👧 Have a close family history of skin cancer
👷 Work outdoors or spend a lot of time in the sun
🤍 Have very fair skin that burns easily
🔎 Have a large number of moles or freckles

Did you know that more than two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70? Here in Queensland, melanoma rates are among the highest in the country, making regular skin checks even more important.

For many adults, particularly those over 40, a skin check is an opportunity to understand your individual risk and discuss whether Total Body Mapping could help monitor changes over time.

📅 If you're unsure whether TBM is right for you, book a skin check and have a conversation with one of our GPs - https://sunstatefamilypractice.com.au/make-an-appointment/
