π’π Happy World Animal Day! ππ
This year's theme is "See the World Through Their Eyes" β and here in Aruba, that view is changing fast.
Imagine being a sea turtle returning to the beach where you hatched, only to find it hotter, more crowded, and littered with plastic. π₯€ Imagine being a reef fish whose colourful coral home is turning white from warming seas. Imagine being a street dog or cat searching for shade and water through longer, hotter dry seasons. π
We humans make decisions about climate and the future from our point of view. But animals live with the consequences too β and they have no vote and no voice.
Coral reefs cover only about 1% of the ocean floor, yet support around a quarter of all marine life. What happens to our reefs, beaches and shrublands happens to every creature that depends on them β great or small.
That's why Animal Rights Aruba believes the next chapter of animal protection starts with education and better rules: teaching the next generation to see the world through animals' eyes, and speaking up for laws that protect them.
π Today, try it yourself:
β’ Pick up 5 pieces of plastic on your next beach walk
β’ Leave a bowl of fresh water outside for thirsty animals
β’ Share this post to help more people see what animals see

πΎ INTERNATIONAL HOMELESS ANIMALS DAY πΎ
Every year in August, we pause for the animals who don't have a home yet β and recommit to the ones we're still fighting for. π§‘
Some numbers worth sitting with:
π Millions of dogs and cats worldwide are without homes right now β many right here in Aruba.
ποΈ Overpopulation, not "too many bad owners," is the biggest driver β which is why spay/neuter programs save so many lives before they're even born into hardship.
π€ Older, less "cute," or less common-breed animals are consistently the last chosen β even though they often make the calmest, most grateful companions.
π Every adoption doesn't just save one life β it opens up a foster or shelter spot for the next animal in need.
To Animal Rights Aruba, this day is personal. Every animal that was in our care was once homeless. Whether you can adopt, foster, donate, or simply share a post like this one β you're part of closing that gap.
π€ IT'S BLACK CAT APPRECIATION DAY! π€
Let's set the record straight: black cats are NOT bad luck β they're just extra fabulous. πΌβ¨
A few purr-fect facts to celebrate them today:
π In many cultures (Japan, UK, parts of the Caribbean!), black cats are actually considered good luck.
πΎ They're often the last to get adopted from shelters β simply because of old superstitions, not personality.
π» Their sleek all-black coat comes from extra melanin β basically, they're wearing a permanent little tuxedo.
β€οΈ Studies show black cats tend to be just as affectionate, playful, and bonded to their people as any other cat.
πΎ Happy International Cat Day πΎ
There's a particular kind of quiet a cat brings into a room β a sunbeam claimed, a windowsill turned into a watchtower, a nap that somehow looks like the most important task of the day.
Today we're celebrating every whisker on the island β including all the ones who found their way into loving homes this year. Every cat we've placed carries a little piece of this community with them, one sunbeam and one windowsill at a time.
Every purr, every stretch, every slow blink is a small reminder of why we do this. Thank you for helping us keep showing up for them. πΎ

π’ Happy World Turtle Day!π’
For over 200 million years, turtles have roamed our planet β but today they face threats they were never built to withstand: habitat loss, plastic pollution, and climate change. Right here in Aruba and across the Caribbean, sea turtles are true guardians of our ocean β maintaining seagrass beds, balancing marine populations, and spreading vital nutrients through our waters. All four species found in Aruba β the Green, Loggerhead, Hawksbill, and rare Leatherback β are endangered and need our help. π
π You can make a difference:
> Ditch single-use plastics
> Keep beaches dark at night during nesting season
> Support local conservation efforts like the Turtugaruba Foundation
They've survived millions of years β let's make sure they survive us. π
Somewhere right nowβ¦
A forest falls silent.
An ocean grows warmer.
A habitat disappears.
And an animal who has never harmed our planet
is paying the price for the way we treat it.
But hope isnβt lost β not if we choose differently today.
π This Earth Day, stand with us.
Protect their home.
Protect their future.
Protect the only planet we all share.
Because when we fight for the Earth,
we fight for every life that depends on it.
