SSST - Game Design and Development Program

Our academic year has gone to a fun, game-like start – which is a no surprise since we have launched the Game Design and Development Department, first of its kind in the region. During one of their first classes for the Foundations of Game Design and Development, taught by Professor Belma Ramic-Brkic, our students had the chance to exercise game design essentials by playing the game of Bartok. The aim was to see what makes the game particularly interesting and how changing the rules also changes the game feel. They also have invented some new rules because... why not?

And - in the final, third year:

You will be capable of utilizing knowledge of game design, the understanding of game business and development practices in putting together their final project (documentation, presentation, portfolio). Youwill have the opportunity to present your game to peers and industry professionals, gaining feedback and exploring employment opportunities through networking. You will complete a practical internship, professionally fine-tuning the skills acquired in second year.

The final year of the program is devoted to applying all acquired knowledge and taking the beta version of the game to full release.

So, what will you learn in each year of Gaming program? Here's the breakdown:

In the first year, the emphasis is on learning the fundamentals of game design and development. You will have introductory courses in programming, game mechanics, 3D modeling, basic calculus. You will become familiar with the tools and software of game design, while getting an overview of the gaming industry, its history and trends.

In addition, your are taught the fundamentals of directing and cinematic narration, creative writing, storytelling and dramaturgy as well as developing storyboards. You will explore the relationships between art, literature and technology.

The knowledge gained in the first year of study will provide you with basic technical skills, but also narrative and visual literacy, helping you search for the original idea and graphic identity of your game, its universe and characters.
