🌍 Peacebuilding starts with dialogue, understanding, and learning from one another.
In this story, we share more about UWC Mostar’s mission and our everyday work to create a community where diversity becomes an opportunity for learning, connection, and collaboration.
During Peace Days 2026, activities such as “Around the World in 80 Minutes” offered another opportunity to show how education and culture can foster dialogue and peace.
In the interview, our Director of Advancement and Outreach, Haris Idriz, shares more about UWC Mostar’s mission, the everyday experiences of our students, and the importance of peacebuilding initiatives.
Izgradnja mira kroz kulturu i dijalog: Priča o Koledžu ujedinjenog svijeta i Danima mira u Mostaru

This Sunday, the 27th, Kantarevac came alive for one of our great school traditions, the Football Interresidentials! 🔥⚽️
Teams from all five residences and a staff team stepped onto the pitch ready to compete, cheer each other on, and have a great time. The matches brought plenty of energy, excitement, competition, and some seriously loud support from the sidelines. The stands were packed with enthusiastic fans cheering their residences on! 📣
🏆 Congratulations to Mejdan, this year’s Interresidential Football champions!
⭐️ A special congratulations as well to Yousef, our player of the tournament!

We were delighted to continue our university visit series with representatives from the University of Richmond, Lake Forest College, and Occidental College! 🎓
Our students had the opportunity to meet with university representatives, learn more about academic programs and campus life, and gain valuable insights into the university admission process.
We’re grateful for these opportunities to connect our students with universities from across the United States and to help them explore the many possibilities ahead. 🌎

“UWC did not just give me a high school education; it changed my idea of what was possible.”
Looking back, Iman sees her two years at UWC Mostar as one of the key turning points in her life.
Being surrounded by people from different countries, cultures and life experiences changed the way she thought about her own possibilities. Things that once felt too far away became things she could imagine pursuing herself.
As a Davis UWC Scholar at Lewis & Clark College, she studied Computer Science, exploring cybersecurity and data analytics while also pursuing interests far beyond her degree. She did theatre and dance, spent a semester travelling through more than ten countries with Semester at Sea, and worked on a project focused on access to menstrual products for girls in Sarajevo. She later applied to Goldman Sachs, despite initially seeing it as almost out of reach, and received an offer before graduating. Today, Iman works in Asset and Wealth Management in New York.
For her, these experiences are connected. UWC taught her that she didn’t have to fit into one category or have her entire future figured out. She could stay curious, explore different interests and apply for opportunities that initially felt out of reach.
And the UWC community stayed with her too. From Portland to cities and countries around the world, she kept finding UWCers ready to share advice, make connections or lend a hand. Even after settling in New York, the network was there, including when she was looking for an apartment. Today, Iman describes the UWC community as less like a traditional alumni network and more like a large, dispersed family.
The two years in Mostar were only the beginning. The perspective, curiosity and community she found there have continued to shape the way she learns, explores, and makes decisions long after graduation.
Thank you, Iman, for sharing your story with us, and for reminding us of all the ways a UWC education can stay with you long after you leave. ❤️

Dr. Martina Batteux from ZfA Sarajevo held a two-hour workshop at UWC Mostar on the topic “Leben in der DDR” (Life in the GDR).
The workshop was part of the Peace Days programme and a collaboration between the German classes of UWC Mostar and Gymnasium Fra Grga Martić Mostar.
During the workshop, students explored what everyday life was like in East Germany, with a special focus on the experiences of young people their age. Together, they discussed different perspectives and aspects of daily life in the GDR.
The students were divided into four groups and each group received a different topic related to everyday life. Over the coming weeks, they will work together on their topics, develop ideas and prepare creative presentations of their findings.
📅 At the end of October, the students, German teachers from both schools and Dr. Martina Batteux will meet again to present and share the results of their collaboration.
A great opportunity to learn, exchange perspectives and build connections through language, history and cooperation! 🤝

🎥 Our Identity Beyond Our Differences was one of the workshops organised as part of the Peace Conference.
Souleymane, Faija, Lwazi and Kamil, in collaboration with our teacher Benjamin, created a space to explore how the stories we inherit can shape the way we see ourselves and others, and how assumptions can become labels that affect belonging and equal participation.
Through movement, storytelling, discussion and reflection, participants were invited to listen without assuming, question familiar narratives and think about what it means to create communities where everyone can be heard and belong without having to erase their identity.
Here is glimpse into the topic of their workshop, captured and created by the students themselves. 💛
