The students listened, learned, asked questions, and most importantly, shared their own vision of what Bangladesh’s energy future should look like through the Solar Sun Cards.

LCOY Bangladesh 2026 Organizing Committee held a meeting with the newly elected Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Youth Coalition (BYC).

As part of the collaboration, BYC will circulate the Bangladesh Youth Statement developed by LCOY Bangladesh among its 104 member organizations across the country for review and feedback.

The collective perspectives of these organizations will help us validate, strengthen, and ensure broader representation of the Youth Statement, reflecting diverse youth voices from across Bangladesh.

From youth voices to a collective national position.

Day 1 of LCOY Bangladesh 2026 at the National Parliament brought together young people, policymakers, professors, educators and climate practitioners for this roundtable.

The room didn't hold back. Conversations covered climate education, capacity building, technology transfer, and climate finance, alongside a sharp focus on including rural, coastal and marginalized youth who are too often left out of these discussions. Participants spoke candidly about how climate mobility is quietly stealing education, livelihoods and opportunity from young people across the country.

There were strong calls for transparent Loss and Damage funding, real inclusion of informal workers, stronger youth voice in decision making, and accountability from both government and development organizations.

The message that came through clearest, youth should not just be consulted, they should be meaningfully included, in policy, in implementation, and in holding the system accountable.

𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧; 𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗦 & 𝗗𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗚𝗘

Day 1 of LCOY Bangladesh 2026 at the National Parliament featured a side event on Loss and Damage, led by Ismail Hossain Mahraj, Training and Campaign Lead, Eco-Network Global.

Some things climate change takes away can never be given back, a home swept by floods, farmland turned useless by salinity, a way of life gone for good. Ismail spoke to that reality directly, sharing stories from the ground and pushing the room to think about what justice actually looks like for the communities already paying the price. Not just compensation on paper, but support that reaches the people who need it most.

Young people and policymakers in the room left with a sharper sense of what Loss and Damage really means when you stop treating it as a statistic.

Day 1 of LCOY Bangladesh 2026 at the National Parliament also featured a side event on Human Rights, Peace and Security, led by Sagar Kar, Lead, Bangladesh Youth COP 2026.

Climate action without human rights at its core is fundamentally incomplete. Sagar's session, "Living on the Frontlines," made the case that climate change is not just an ecological crisis, it is a direct threat to human dignity, peace and stability for communities already living on the edge. True climate justice means putting the safety and dignity of frontline communities at the center, not treating it as an afterthought to technical or economic policy.

Young people and policymakers in the room left with a sharper understanding of why human security has to be the foundation, not just a footnote, of climate action.

𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧 : 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Another powerful side event unfolded on Day 1of LCOY Bangladesh 2026 at the National Parliament, this time on Adaptation, led by Md. Khairul Islam Munma Founder and Executive Director, Green Peace Youth Development Society

Rising seas, salinity creeping into once fertile land, cyclones that hit harder and more often, this is the everyday reality for millions across Bangladesh. Khairul brought his years of ground level experience into the room, sharing real stories of how communities are learning to adapt, and why adaptation can never be a one size fits all solution dictated from the top. It has to be built with the people living it.

Young people and policymakers left with a clearer picture of what real, community rooted adaptation actually looks like.

𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧 ; 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀

Day 1 of LCOY Bangladesh 2026 at the National Parliament also featured a powerful side event, a Panel on Circular Economy and Informal Workers, led by Jubayer Islam, Executive Director, Climate Frontier.

Here's the thing most climate conversations miss, the people sorting our waste, recycling what we throw away, and keeping our cities running behind the scenes are rarely part of the climate policy conversation. Jubayer broke that down for the room, connecting the dots between circular economy practices and the informal workers whose labor makes it possible, and why any just transition has to include them, not leave them behind.

Young people and policymakers in the room walked away seeing this issue a little differently, and honestly, so should we all.

We can never achieve climate justice if we confine the climate crisis to COPs and international negotiation rooms. The recent landslides and floods in Nepal, along with the growing frequency of extreme weather events around the world, remind us that we urgently need a broader global climate movement- that compels the Global North to come to the negotiating table and reach a clear, just, and binding framework or agreement for a transition away from fossil fuels. And young people must lead this global movement for change, so that we can move towards a fossil-fuel-free and just world by 2050.”
