A modern bathroom is no longer just a space for washing and grooming. With the right technology, it can become one of the most comfortable, efficient and personalised spaces in the home. A smart bathroom combines intelligent technology with thoughtful interior design. Automated lighting, smart mirrors, sensor-operated fittings, digital showers, heated floors, ventilation systems and water-saving fixtures can all improve the everyday experience.

At Design Doctors Studio, we believe technology should support design—not dominate it. The best smart bathroom is one where technology works quietly in the background while the space continues to feel calm, elegant and comfortable. Here are the key elements to consider when designing a smart bathroom.
1. Start With Smart Bathroom Planning

Technology should be considered from the beginning of the design process. Adding smart devices after the bathroom is already constructed can create unnecessary wiring, exposed controls and visual clutter.

During the planning stage, consider the location of:

Electrical points
Smart switches
Sensors
Water connections
Data or control systems
Exhaust and ventilation
LED lighting
Heated flooring
Smart mirrors
Digital shower controls

A well-planned smart bathroom should look almost identical to a conventional bathroom—but perform much better.

A luxury bathroom is no longer simply about expensive tiles, a large bathtub or premium sanitary fittings. True luxury comes from how the entire space feels and functions.

At Design Doctors Studio, we believe a luxury bathroom should feel calm, private and effortless. Every element—from the layout and lighting to the materials, storage and sanitary fixtures—should work together to create an experience rather than simply an attractive interior. In a well-designed luxury bathroom, you should be able to walk in after a long day and immediately feel a sense of comfort and relaxation. Here are the key principles we consider when designing a high-end bathroom.
1. Start With a Well-Planned Bathroom Layout

Luxury begins with space planning. A large bathroom can still feel uncomfortable if the wash basin, shower, toilet and bathtub are poorly positioned. The first step is therefore to create a layout that provides comfortable movement and clear zones.

A luxury bathroom may be divided into:

Vanity and grooming area
Shower area
Bathtub zone
Toilet area
Storage area
Dressing or changing area

Where space allows, separating wet and dry zones can make the bathroom considerably more comfortable and easier to maintain. The goal is not to fill a large bathroom with more fixtures. It is to give each element enough space to breathe.

2. Choose Materials That Create a Sense of Luxury

Luxury bathroom design depends heavily on material selection. Natural stone, marble-look porcelain, large-format tiles, textured surfaces, timber finishes and premium glass can all contribute to a sophisticated environment. But using expensive materials everywhere does not necessarily create luxury. The better approach is to select a limited number of high-quality materials and use them consistently.

For example:

Marble or stone-effect walls
Large-format porcelain flooring
Natural or wood-effect vanity finishes
Brushed metal fittings
Clear glass shower screens

A carefully controlled material palette often looks more luxurious than a bathroom filled with different colours and patterns.

3. Use Large-Format Tiles for a More Refined Look

Large-format tiles have become increasingly popular in contemporary luxury bathrooms. They reduce the number of visible grout lines and create a cleaner visual surface. This can make the bathroom feel more spacious and architectural. Large-format stone-effect porcelain is particularly useful because it can create the appearance of natural marble or stone while offering practical advantages in terms of maintenance and durability.

For a premium bathroom, consider continuing the same or complementary material from the floor onto selected walls. This creates visual continuity and gives the space a more cohesive appearance.
4. Create a Statement Vanity Area

The vanity is often the visual center of a luxury bathroom. Instead of treating it simply as a place to wash your hands, it can become an important piece of interior architecture.

Consider:

A floating vanity
Custom cabinetry
Double basins
Large backlit mirrors
Integrated storage
Stone or solid-surface countertops
Premium wall finishes

A floating vanity also keeps the floor visually open, which can make the bathroom feel larger. For master bathrooms, a double vanity can provide both convenience and a stronger sense of proportion.

How to Design a Smart Kitchen: Planning Technology, Lighting, Storage and Energy Efficiency:

A smart kitchen should make life easier. That sounds simple, but designing one properly requires much more than choosing a smart refrigerator or installing a voice-controlled light. A truly successful smart kitchen design begins much earlier—often before the first electrical point, cabinet or appliance is installed. Technology, lighting, storage, ventilation, plumbing and energy use all need to work together. When these elements are planned properly from the beginning, technology becomes part of the architecture rather than something added afterwards.

At Design Doctors Studio, we approach smart kitchen design from this perspective. The objective is not to fill a kitchen with gadgets. It is to create a space that feels natural to use, looks refined and quietly makes everyday life easier.
What Makes a Kitchen Truly Smart?

A smart kitchen combines three things:

Good design + useful technology + thoughtful planning

The technology might include connected appliances, automated lighting, touchless faucets, intelligent ventilation or energy monitoring. But technology alone does not make a kitchen smart. If the refrigerator is difficult to access, the lighting is poorly positioned, storage is inadequate or electrical points are in the wrong locations, even the most expensive appliances will not make the kitchen successful.

The smartest kitchen is the one that works effortlessly

Smart Kitchen Technology: The Essential Appliances and Features for a Modern Home:

Technology has changed the way we live at home.

From smart lighting and security systems to automated climate control, technology is becoming an integral part of modern residential interior design. The kitchen is no exception.Today’s smart kitchen technology allows homeowners to cook more efficiently, manage appliances remotely, reduce energy consumption and make everyday tasks considerably easier.

But a truly successful smart kitchen is not simply a collection of expensive gadgets. It is a carefully designed environment where technology, interior design and lifestyle work together.

At Design Doctors Studio, we believe that technology should serve the homeowner rather than dominate the interior. The best smart kitchen is one where advanced features are integrated naturally into the design, often without being visually obvious.
What Makes a Kitchen “Smart”?

A smart kitchen typically combines connected appliances, intelligent controls and automated features that improve convenience and efficiency.

Depending on the homeowner’s requirements, a smart kitchen may include:

Smart refrigerators
Connected ovens
Induction cooktops
Smart dishwashers
Touchless faucets
Intelligent lighting
Smart ventilation
Water purification systems
Motorised storage
Energy monitoring
App and voice controls

Not every kitchen needs all of these features.

The right technology depends on the size of the kitchen, the family’s lifestyle, cooking habits and the overall residential design.

Open Kitchen Design: Creating a Seamless Living Experience:

Modern luxury homes have evolved beyond traditional room divisions. Today’s homeowners prefer open, flowing spaces that encourage interaction, maximise natural light and create a stronger connection between family members. One of the most influential elements of this design philosophy is the open kitchen.

An open kitchen removes unnecessary barriers between the kitchen, dining area and living room, transforming the heart of the home into a welcoming and multifunctional space. When professionally planned, it offers a perfect balance of beauty, practicality and contemporary living.

At Design Doctors Studio, we believe an open kitchen should be tailored to the lifestyle of each homeowner. Whether designing residences in Gulshan, Banani, Dhanmondi, Bashundhara Residential Area or Uttara, our objective is to create kitchens that remain elegant, efficient and timeless.
What Is an Open Kitchen?

An open kitchen is a layout where the kitchen is visually connected to the dining and living areas without full-height separating walls. Instead of isolating cooking activities, this design creates one continuous living environment where family members and guests can comfortably interact while meals are being prepared. The result is a home that feels larger, brighter and more inviting.
