Shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, police received a report of a serious single vehicle road traffic collision involving a livery cycle, near the junction of St. Anne’s Road and St. Anne’s Drive, Southampton.

Upon arrival, it was ascertained by officers that the livery cycle was traveling west along St. Anne’s Road, when the 16-year old male cycle rider lost control of the vehicle and fell onto the roadway.

He sustained suspected head injuries and was reportedly in and out of consciousness. His male pillion passenger, also a 16-year-old male, sustained minor bruises about the body.

It was confirmed that both males, who are visitors to the island, were not wearing helmets at the time of the collision.

They were attended to at the scene by Emergency Medical Services personnel and subsequently transported by ambulance, to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, for further treatment of their injuries.

The roadway was closed to vehicular traffic for approximately two hours, while the collision scene was forensically processed.

An investigation into this incident has now commenced and anyone with information is asked to call 211.

With several large events including, Bacchanal Run, The Wayne Wonder Concert and Non-mariners expected to attract significant attendance over the remainder of the weekend, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) reminds members of the public to make responsible choices and help ensure these events are safe and enjoyable.

The BPS will maintain a robust, high-visibility presence at and around these gatherings.

Officers will continue with proactive patrols, roadside sobriety stops (RSS), and stop-and-search operations. These measures are intended to prevent persons from carrying offensive weapons, controlled drugs and other prohibited items in public and into planned events, ensuring the safety and security of all those in attendance.

These ongoing police actions have resulted in a number of knives being recovered and persons arrested. Carrying knives or other weapons to entertainment events, places patrons, event staff, first responders, and the wider community at unnecessary risk.

Anyone found in possession of prohibited weapons, involved in criminal activity or antisocial behaviour, should expect to be dealt with swiftly and in accordance with the law.

Leave all weapons at home.
Never drink and drive. Plan a safe way home before attending any event.
Report suspicious activity or criminal behaviour to police.
Respect event staff, security personnel, and fellow patrons.
Enjoy yourself responsibly.

Acting Chief Inspector Nidol Barker, leading the BPS Weekend Policing Plan, stated: “Our officers will be highly visible throughout the weekend with one clear objective. That is, to keep our community safe. We want everyone attending these events to enjoy themselves responsibly and return home safely. We ask the public to work with us by making sensible decisions, leaving weapons at home, and respecting the law. Those who choose to carry knives or engage in criminal behaviour should expect a swift and decisive police response.”

Please, please, please, approach all intersections with caution as you leave Somerset and look out for our officers. They have families to go home to as well. They should be easily identifiable in their reflective wear.

Please exercise caution as you leave Somerset following the big game. Expect there may be some delay given the volume of traffic exiting the west end. Be patient and comply with the instructions of our officers as we work to minimise any delays.

Please observe the no parking signs in the areas around the Somerset Cricket Club if you’re coming up to the game. Follow the instructions of our Police and RBR teams when parking, particularly as we need to ensure there is free access for emergency vehicles.
