The student asthma registry is now live for 2026/2027. It is to be completed each year for all school students aged four through 18 in Bermuda with asthma.

This registry is facilitated through collaboration of The Bermuda Department of Education, The Bermuda Department of Health, the Bermuda Hospitals Board Asthma Education Center, and Open Airways a Bermuda registered charity ( #458).

The primary aim is to ensure every child with asthma receives the guidance and assistance they need with their asthma to have a healthy and successful school year!

With proper treatment and control, these students should not be missing school due to their asthma and should be able to participate in all school activities, including sports!

As children head back to school, September can be a challenging month for children living with asthma. Asthma attacks and hospital visits tend to increase as routines change and children are exposed to respiratory viruses, seasonal allergens and school-based triggers.

The good news? You can help your child be prepared. ❤️

✅ Make sure their Asthma Action Plan is up to date
✅ Make sure they take their preventer medication as prescribed
✅ Know their asthma triggers and what to do if symptoms worsen
✅ Keep their rescue inhaler and spacer close by
✅ Make sure the school/caregivers know about their asthma and what to do in an emergency
