🗣️ Talking isn’t the same as communicating.

Your child may know lots of words but communication is about so much more than how many words they can say. It’s being able to express wants and needs, share ideas, answer questions, connect with others, and let you know what they’re thinking and feeling.

Being “talkative” doesn’t always mean a child is communicating effectively 💬

🤟🏼 Signing can be a powerful tool in speech therapy! It can help children communicate their wants and needs, reduce frustration, support language development, and give them a way to express themselves while spoken language is still developing. 🗣️💛

And no, using signs does not prevent children from talking! It can actually give them another bridge to communication. ✨

What does a speech therapist ACTUALLY do? 👀

Sometimes it looks like we’re just playing…

But there’s a whole lot happening behind the scenes. 🎯

We’re building language, expanding vocabulary, practising speech sounds, working on following directions, encouraging interaction, supporting social communication and helping children learn to communicate better.

Because when a speech therapist gets on the floor and plays with your child…

we’re playing with purpose 💙
