Samtse Hospital would like to sincerely acknowledge and express our heartfelt gratitude to former DHO Mr. Gunja Raj Gurung for his generous donation of a complete desktop set to the Dialysis Unit. This timely support comes after observing the frequent breakdowns of our desktop and laptop systems, which had been significantly hampering the delivery of quality care to our patients. Due to these technical issues, the unit was compelled to miss recording and managing patient treatment sessions on several occasions.

Moved by this challenging situation, and understanding the impact on patient care, Mr. Gunja Raj Gurung came forward with this valuable contribution, demonstrating true compassion and commitment to the wellbeing of our patients.

We deeply appreciate this kind gesture and extend our sincere thanks for strengthening our service delivery through this support.

Samtse General Hospital joined the global observance of World Breastfeeding Week 2026 under the theme "Breastfeeding for a sustainable start in life: strengthen what works."

An interactive health education session was conducted for hospital staff and mothers, highlighting the importance of breastfeeding, maternal and child well-being, and practical ways to strengthen breastfeeding support.

Together, let us continue to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding for a healthier start in life. Thank you to all the staff and mothers for your active participation and support in making the session a success.

𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Officials from the Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (VBDCP) conducted a briefing session on malaria elimination certification at Samtse Hospital in preparation for the upcoming WHO malaria elimination certification process.

During the session, hospital staff were updated on Bhutan's current malaria situation, national strategies for sustaining malaria elimination, and measures to prevent the re-establishment of indigenous malaria transmission. The briefing emphasized the important role of healthcare workers in maintaining surveillance, early detection, prompt response, and continued public awareness.

Samtse District reported its last indigenous malaria case in 2015. Since then, the Malaria Unit at Samtse Hospital has remained committed to strengthening surveillance and implementing effective preventive measures to support Bhutan's malaria elimination efforts.

Samtse Hospital extends its sincere appreciation to the team from the VBDCP, Gelephu, for conducting this informative and timely briefing. Together, we remain committed to achieving and sustaining a malaria-free Bhutan.

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep Samtse General Hospital clean, green and beautiful, under the initiative of the Samtse Dzongkhag Administration, a social work / cleaning activity is being carried out EVERY FRIDAY ALTERNATIVELY FROM 2:00 PM.

HOW THE ALTERNATING SCHEDULE WORKS:
Because this cleaning activity happens every alternate week, the hospital will close for visitors at 2:00 PM on cleaning weeks, but remain open as usual on the following week.

To help you plan your visit, here is how the cycle tracks (starting from our recent session):

Friday, July 3 (Week 1): CLEANING DAY — Hospital closed to visitors from 2:00 PM onwards.

Friday, July 10 (Week 2): NO CLEANING — Hospital open as usual.

Friday, July 17 (Week 3): CLEANING DAY — Hospital closed to visitors from 2:00 PM onwards.

Friday, July 24 (Week 4): NO CLEANING — Hospital open as usual.
..and so on, alternating every single week.

The general public is kindly informed NOT to visit the hospital during the designated cleaning hours on active cleaning weeks. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your kind cooperation.

​Today, the entire team at Samtse Hospital came together for our Bi-monthly Social Useful Productive Work (SUPW) initiative.

​From our dedicated doctors and nurses to our administration and support staff, everyone paused their routine for one hour to invest their time and energy into beautifying our hospital surroundings. Together, we cleared weeds, trimmed hedges, and tidied up the gardens to ensure a clean, green, and welcoming environment for our patients and visitors.

Samtse Regional Referral Hospital Project expected to start in 2026 - The Bhutanese The government’s plan to upgrade Samtse Hospital into a Regional Referral Hospital is moving into it

𝗜𝗻𝗮𝘂𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 (𝗠𝗠𝗨) 𝗮𝘁 𝗚𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗯-𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁

The Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) at Gawaling Sub-Post was officially inaugurated on 2 June 2026, marking an important step towards strengthening outreach healthcare services and improving access to essential health services for communities in remote areas.The programme was graced by Dasho Dzongrab and attended by the Dzongkhag Health Officer, Chief Medical Officer of Samtse Hospital, health officials, local leaders, and community members.

During the event, the significance of the MMU in delivering preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare services closer to the people was highlighted. Dasho Dzongrab commended the efforts of the health sector in ensuring equitable access to healthcare and encouraged the community to make full use of the services provided.

The Mobile Medical Unit will provide a comprehensive range of healthcare services including:
1. General outpatient consultations
2. Screening and management of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)
3. Maternal and Child Health services
4. Immunization services
5. Health education and promotion activities
6. Basic laboratory investigations
7. Follow-up care and referral services

This initiative is expected to reduce travel burdens on patients and improve timely access to healthcare, particularly for vulnerable populations. The Health Sector extends its sincere appreciation to all officials, local leaders, and community members for their support and participation in making the programme a success.
