Guide Light Productions is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) and the 1st Belize Youth Production Group headed by a Youth Executive Director and 13 Youth Directors who presides over the Executive Board and is driven by the experience of 8 Senior Advisers. At this birth phase, the partners for Guide Light Productions are Business Partners, Schools, Parent Support, Youth Ministries, Youths of Belize and Churches. Guide Light Productions is driven to work directly with youths who are willing to make a change within themselves, their peers and their country. With activities such as 1st Belize Peer Helpers Group, we tend to introduce Belize to the youths who want to step up as future leaders. HOW IS GUIDE LIGHT PRODUCTIONS DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER? Unlike any other youth ministrY, Guide Light Productions reaches out to youths in ways relevant to them. In order to teach our youths, we are open to understanding how their open to learn. Here at Guide Light Productions we use the resources youths love to reach to them and mold them into productive citizens. It is only we ask involve our youth in life changing decision, will they be able to understand responsibility and independence in a wider scope. When working with youths, we are willing to listen rather than just talking. We need our youths to feel that we are there to help them rather than to judge them. We are here to change lives, we are here to give youths something positive to live for rather than negative regrets to live with. There has never been a more critical time for Belize to make meaningful contact with its young people than now. WHAT IS THE BELIZE PEER HELPERS? Guide Light Productions DEVELOPED the 1st Belize City Peer Helpers Group which is formed by 10 students from each secondary high school and community volunteers and will meet with them on a weekly basis. We are anchored to teach youths on how to become leaders and train them on how to give back to society. we need to start taking different approaches to teach our youths rather than using ways that have been developed for decades and haven’t been working. WHAT IS PEER HELPING? Peer helping is based on the fact that youth often seek out their peers when they are experiencing some frustration, worry or concern. Children and adolescents want to help each other, yet they often do not know how or what to do. Peer helpers are trained and supervised to provide any or all of the following:
• listening and understanding;
• friendship and support;
• decision making assistance;
• tutoring and academic help;
• educational, career, and health information;
• role modelling for younger children;
• mediation and conflict resolution;
• problem-solving assistance; and
• referral to professionals.
