A stock 68RFE overdrive shaft only has room for so many clutches.

Our Custom Big Stack billet overdrive shafts are welded in-house, then CNC finished to fit 33% more overdrive clutches, giving the clutch pack more holding capacity for heavy towing and added power.

It’s one of the upgrades built into every TowMaster 68RFE and above.

Signs your torque converter could be failing 🚩

⚙️ Slipping while locked up in gear — the lockup clutch friction material wears down or glazes over, losing its ability to grip cleanly.

〰️ Shuddering at low speed — usually 30-40 mph, right where the converter is supposed to lock up and stop working so hard.

🌡️ Rising transmission temps — every bit of that slip generates heat. The converter can’t dissipate it fast enough, and climbing temps break down ATF faster than normal driving would.

🔥 Burnt fluid smell — degraded fluid loses its ability to protect the internals. By this point, wear is compounding fast.

💨 Fluid Leak at the Front of the Transmission — Red Fluid collecting behind bell housing usually means the front pump or converter hub seal. Leaks drip line pressure which starts the skip and heat cycle even when the converter internals are good.

✅ Know these signs, and you can catch converter failure before it takes the rest of your transmission down with it.
